Default Speed Test

Hey Michele,

Are there any results or figures yet from the speed test regarding the "Select Your ISP" and "How Fast is your connection meant to be?" Im interested to see how the ISPs compare.

I'll be talking with our programmers after the weekend to see what they've managed to extract so far.

In order to get a fair and accurate view we need to get as many tests as possible. Any ideas on how to get people testing would be appreciated

While I'm not sure how to get extras to visit the speed test page, these two would help avoid speed tests where no ISP / expected speed fields are selected:
  1. Only display the Java speed test applet after the two drop-down fields have values chosen.
  2. Set the ISP and expected connection speed fields to the values last selected when a logged-in user returns to save filling them in each time.

I'm looking forward to the statistics

I have a feeling a lot of people are running the test without selecting their ISP
or speed. If the test was a simple three step process it would guarantee that
every tester puts in their ISP and speed before they do the test.

Step 1 - Select ISP.
Step 2 - Select your Speed.
Step 3 - Run Speed Test.

Default Speed test

Hi

Very good idea adding the ISP 's and various speeds. However there seems to be no 5MB in the speed drop down list for those of us who use Metro Xtra from Digiweb and other 5MB packages. Also the top 10 speed results section has not worked since the 10/10/07 and I found it very handy when emailing DW re speed issues.

Overall excellent site and keep up the good work.

Default compare ISP speeds

A lot of ppl saying " wow great , now we can compare isp results". This begs the question... How was this test previously able to give any kind of quality of service reading ? the test didn't know weather i had a 10 or 2 meg connection !!!.
The results of this test seem to me to be completely random.
I have a 2 meg conection from clearwire and here are my results...

Download 37.5 kbps (should be 224.00 kbps)
Upload 12.7
Quality 20%

Could someone please explain to me how this can be 20% quality of service ?

It seems to me that the closer upload and download speeds are you get a higher quality of service result. For example if i had upload 10kbps and download 10kbps.. quality of service would be 100%. wrong ?

This test is bull, and cleawire customer service recommend this test to its users..... I wonder why ? it makes them look not as bad as they are, slightly

I have just completed another test but i have entered Eircom as my provider
and i have entered 24 meg conection

Download 39.5 kbps
Upload 11.7
Quality 14%

do the math, quality of servive should be -50% at least.

This test is tripe

Quality of service is a ratio.

It is the ratio of the slowest download rate to the highest download rate, as seen during a single speed test.

If your connection is stable ie. you get the same speed of connection during the time taken for the test then your QoS will be better.

It doesn't take into account what your connection speed is advertised as by the ISP.

Where is the button for "step 3"? The other 2 options are there.
If I could find the "Run speed test" I would press it.
I have Java and all that, but there is no Run test button.

Does it exist. or is someone just hiding it to piss me off?

Bad for you: i only test when i suspect a problem.
Good for you: I ve been testing my arse off the last 10 months as i am with NTL and get the most hilarious results on my 6mb line.

I guess people will only test if they have problems....

Hi Speciala

Look for the 'Click to start MySpeed' button in the java window.

If you have changed the version of Java installed on your PC you may need to empty your browser cache

Default Speed test

Hi Blacknight

I have similar issues with the speed test. Before I go further I am always logged in before I run the test. My issues, as I outlined before are

1. The "Show your results" section too does not work for me. The last time it worked was the 10/10/07 and I have done several tests since but there is no record being kept.

2. In the drop down speed menu there is no 5MB, especially when some companies offer it, especially Dgiweb.

So John Mullan is not alone. There seems to be a glitch somewhere.
