Default speeds not accurate as measured

Whats the story here, I travel around the country and it seems that I am getting inaccurate measurements from this site.

When i check the speed from some locations it tells me that I have a very lo download speed, as lo as 25kbps and yet when I go on to favourite websites they load up really quickly and when I check my speed in other locations and get results like 748kbps I am getting really crap download speeds in same sites.

This is not logical and am seriously wondering about accuracy of blacknight. They claim to be unbiased which infers that some sites can be biased. i.e. inaccurate. Have Blacknight become one of the biased sites?

Time to check out other sites to see if they give results that work in the real world I think. Any other members have same conclusions or any ideas on the subject? would be really happy to hear some views on this.....talk to me

Default Blacknight speed test?

Hi there,
It would appear that the problem you describe is not down to Blacknight. If you read the 'disclaimer', you will see that the speed test is provided by a neutral third party. But perhaps Blacknight could chase down this speed test provider for an answer?

Hi

Your favourite sites would be in your browser cache, so they will always appear to load quickly.

We are peered with most of the main Irish ISPs (see http://www.inex.ie) so the speed tests are from your PC to our servers.

Without knowing which ISP you are using or which sites you are having issues with there is no way for us to shed any light on the matter for you

I doubt if it's an issue with the speed test itself however, as the only issues we've ever seen are with very high bandwidth connections which are harder to track accurately

Michele

Thanks for your answer Michelle, This would explain fast download at lo speeds but what about slow download at hi speeds. I will now try using different browsers without any caches at these times just to see if your theory is correct, And will post results here as they come in.

Thank you for pointing this out, Had read disclaimer and was questioning that. I think as a consumer we must question everything and hopefully we are wrong most of the time, but living in the most expensive country in Europe there is no doubt that we pay well over the odds for almost everything without a better quality of service. You can see my thread answer to michelle Adm. as to how I am going to check this out.

When I say "high speeds" I'm talking about 60 megabits and higher, which you won't have access to

Well my Broadband provider (permanet) directed me to this site.... and i have been reporting back to them complaining about my download speeds, can't imagine an ISP provider endorsing a site that gave inaccurate results.... especially when the results are unfavourable

well clearwire directed me to speedtest.net which gave speeds ranging form not registering cos too slow to over 90mbps which i thought impossible unless on the enterprise

but this was probably just to further cloud the issue with them?

i'v always found the speedtest here much more reliable than others!
