Since there have been so many spammers signing up here over the last few days we've had to take measures to stop them.
If you cannot register for the forum / site please let support@blacknight.com know referencing the site (ie. don't send an email saying "I can't register" as we won't know what you are talking about )
If the spam levels don't decrease I'll start locking older threads automatically
Again thanks for that. However they are back at it again, offering Japanese girls this time. Locking the older threads might be an idea, as it seems they are starting to hit them and they are very smart in getting onto the forum pretending to be genuine new members when they are not. Worth a mention.
In response to that it was entered under the Digiweb folder "Complaints process" I received an automatic email to notify me that a reply was available and that is where I seen the spam. Unfortunately I deleted the message in order to protect my home PC
I have noticed however that this has now since disappeared from the thread.
creastiy@sina.com has just replied to a thread you have subscribed to entitled - slowspeed - in the Introductions forum of Irish ISP Test - Broadband Forum - How Fast Is Your Connection?.

I could be wrong, but this seems to have died down?
There's a forum I staff on, and when things got heated there, I suggested manual account verification to the owner, which he then coded himself for his Custom YAF. I don't know what vBulletin has to offer, but maybe there's a feature where you can have all sign-ups manually approved? Also, maybe adding a field to the registration form, such as, "Where did you hear about us?", might help weed out the spammers, as they will most likely enter something in that's completely off (or...maybe I'm talking out of my arse?). Making the field compulsory might also be of benefit.
Just my 2 cents, in-case this occurs again, and other measures fail to put a stop to it.
The blocking measures I put in place may be working
Unfortunately the number of new users that could signup here in a day would render user moderation impossible
If it's a lot, then I'd say it would be a lot of tedious work.
It's been quite some time since I registered here, so forgive me for not remembering, but do you have one of those "type the characters from the image into the box" verification fields on the form, to prevent bots from signing up?
being a senior but still quite youngish member i have to say well done on controlling those irritating twats and can the spammers not be brought up to rossmore some day and left up there to go as wild & mad as the natives?
but seriously i dont know much about spamming so is there something in the notification emails i get after they spam? or if i read a thread they have spammed will something nasty happen my pc or is that just if i click on the links they put in their spam posts? or are the spam posts just a waste of space but harmless?
and considering the person that set up my clear****e connection a year ago directed me to this site i can imagine there would be a lot of people signing up if even a few isp's are recommending ye

Spam can be a harmless waste of space, or it can be dangerous. Note that you should steer clear of any links or sign-up forms, as they can be potentially dangerous. Never give out your information, even something as small as your name and date of birth can be devastating. So, depending on the spammer, it can go either way. The best policy is to just ignore it, or take note of it and report it. Never indulge in it.
