Got Fastcom 2 months now, I live in the centre of town. They are slow, very very slow. After 6pm the speed drops to an average of <30k, worse than dial-up. Only after midnight or other unusual hours of the day does it reach speeds of 300k average (sometimes faster). €40 per month with €149 install, Fastcom have totally 'under-delivered', how dare they call it 'fast' and how dare they call it 'broadband'.
If i could turn back the clock I would go to BT, €50pm and good reviews from my mates (never go near Eircom, matter of principle as well as poor value for money)
Basically what has happened in my opinion is that Fastcom have expanded rapidly from Sligo town and county into Mayo, Leitrim. Roscommon, Donegal etc. etc. and have continued to subscribe users on the existing weak infrastructure they had at the start. They have grown very fast but neglected to add more technology to cope with the many new €€€ subscribers €€€.
I live in town so i guess the town network infrastructure is totally oversubscribed which pulls the speed/service down.
I will never recommend Fastcom to anyone, this lack of service is not good enough and word is quickly spreading. Fastcom....get the finger out!
I totally agree. Fastcom are really not worth the bother.
It is advertised as a 2mb upload and 2mb download connection, this was also boasted to me when i called to get the service.
In reality Fastcom rarely exceeds speeds higher than any standard dial up connection.
After many visits to put these problems right by Fastcom techs (who are really nice guys btw, no complaints there) no solution to fix the slow and technologically retarded slow speeds.
Alot of friends have had the same problem too, in sligo town (where i am) and on the outskirts. They have been told upon challenging this problem "if you don't like the service we can close your account". Which would be fair enough if they were not forking out 40 yo yos every month for a BROADBAND connection.
Cowboys basically, do not accept, damaged goods!!!!
Garfy
p.s I was told Fastcom were given a grant to provide bb to sligo! anyone know if this is true?
I have now been a Fastcom customer for almost 3 years. Initially, their upload speeds and D/L were excellent. However, I think that demand has outstripped supply, peak hours are ****e, any time before friggin midnight is crap, I think I'll go back to ISDN with eircom, it was much faster! And we pay 40 bucks a month for this ****e?????

Sorry, my Fastcom connection just collapsed, so I wasn't sure if my post was made, so made it again, sorry for duplicate!
I was probably one of your first 100 customers! I call all the time. Anyway, I have no problem with fastcom support, they do their best. But please, dont try to tell me that Fastcom is able to keep up with the demand, its not. Typical d/l speeds seriously deteriorate after 6pm and before 10, then return to normal (mostly)....Luckily, i mostly work night shift so I can get whatever I want, after hours, so to speak.
Don't you think its feasable that we have been calling support, or dont you have that many calls?
Give us a break, just admit that you cannot keep up man!!

no i never did reply because i didn't know about this forum then (not a big loss anyway, as i can see). Besides, there is a feedback form on our website. What's the point of addressing Fastcom somewhere it can't be seen?
About getting finger out - you can write directly to our directors about it, i am sure they will be glad to help, support@fastcom.ie is read by them all.
