I got an LG 42" TV a couple of months back. The model number is LG 42LC51.

You can get it in a few places for below 1000 euro - I had been thinking of getting the 32" version, but the 42" cost the same on a special offer, so I used the balance to get a decent surround sound system

I advise you to go 1080p. Will cost you a bit but will be reasonable future proof for a while and you won't be kicking yourself in a few years when your bluray discs could be looking better. I've got a sony bravia kdl40w2000. People go like this when they see full HD for the first time.

Ive heard from a few people that Samsung is excellent for HD TVs. I have a
Philips which I wouldnt recommend. There are compatibility issues with my sky
HD box. Ive already had to send it back to Philips to get the HDMI input fixed. It
still doesnt work with sky HD. Works with my PC though.

Philips have unfortunately gone way down in the quality department. It's an awful pity, they used to be so good at one stage.

Sony and Samsung are probably the way to go with TV's (most models from both Sony and Samsung actually use the same LCD panel in their units). There stuff can be pricey but spec wise it's well kitted out and they're very reliable.
