Default Compatibility of Nokia Communicator 9300i with Eircom Broadband

Hello,

I tried to make this question to Eircom support, but they were unable to answer -- to give me any guarantee:

I intend to use the WLAN interface of my Nokia Communicator 9300i at home.
Will it work with the Eircom wireless modem?

The reason I ask is that I already experienced problems with an other ISP: Magnet, and their 2wire modems. After I started to use the 9300i, the modem would detect a "router over router" condition, and lock itself into a mode requiring admistrator access.
I presume this relates to the in-build firewall functionality on the 9300i.

Are there Eircom customers with an experience of using a 9300i?

Is this forum a proper place to make such a question? Would there be a better one?

Thanks!

I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work. I've been using my Nokia 9300i with a linksys wrt54g on a Netsource / Magnet DSL connection without any issues.

I think I had it working on my mother's Eircom connection which also uses a linksys (Eircom usb modem > Linksys > Laptop / Nokia etc.,)

If you are getting odd errors it could be with your Nokia's configuration ...

Default Compatibility of Nokia Communicator 9300i with Eircom Broadband

Thank You!

I cannot say exactly what the cause of my prior problems was: all of Magnet, Nokia and O2 supports more or less refused to investigate it, throwing me all to eachother.
Both Nokia and O2 supports checked that my 9300i configuration looked sane (trivial in fact).

Since you mention Magnet with an other brand of DSL modem, I guess the problem is specific to 2wire... As I wrote previously, the modem (tried with two) would lock itself, so that it would later refuse to work with my laptop, even after reboot...

Eircom sales sounded pretty inflexible, insisting that they offered no guarantee, and that the contract was a 6 month one... The modem they offer is 'netopia'.

If I make it down to Cork in the not to distant future I could try it on her wireless network (which only exists because I hate cables!), but I honestly can't see why it wouldn't work... If you configure the nokia to recognise the wireless network it *should* be able to connect to it without anything crazy happening

Thanks.
Actually, based on your yesterday reply, I did now order the Eircom connection, so that
I'll try myself as well within 10 days or so.

But, I am happy to know that in case I find (again) something strange, I have a reference with whom to compare and reproduce test cases.
