Latency and upload speed are the things that affect your online experience most. Latency is basically how long it takes your PS3 to send out data to the gaming server and then for the response to be received back by the PS3. The higher your "ping" time, the longer it takes for the data to travel and so the longer it takes for the game to react. Problems arise if you've a high ping because there could be someone else who has a low ping time and could, for example, shoot you and kill you before it even becomes apparent that they're there on your game. Most games have a limit on the maximum ping time you can have and if you exceed it, you're automatically kicked off the game.
Secondly, upload speed - this is how fast your internet connection can actually send information out at. If it can't send information out fast enough, then the game will grind to a halt.
Going up to 2Mb will probably have no difference whatsoever, unless the 2Mb package carries a higher upload speed. Do a few ping tests, and report back your results here:
Go to Start > Run.
Type in "cmd" and hit Enter.
In the command prompt window that appears, type "ping -t www.google.ie"
Let it print out about 20 "Reply from ..." lines then press Ctrl and C.
