Exclamation Banned From E-bay

i dont know why when or how but recently i recieved mail from e-bay telling me i was Banned FOREVER from using their site and services! imagine my surprise as i originally registered on the e-bay site but had never used it or evev browsed ads in the site! their response was to ask me to ptovide copies of my passport/driving license (only photo tyype acceptable) and also full banking details to include account numbers with sort cods and credit card account numbers. WOW! THIS WAS ALSO AN AUTHENTIC E-BAY EMAIL. anyway i was annoyed but decided rather than risk the family fortune to ignore this email and if i neeed to buy or sell anything by auction i'll chose a reputible aucioneer!

Scam!!
Could only be.
There is no way E-bay or any other reputible company would ask for all those details
They simply are not allowed

The only reason i can think of for the ban is if someone had hacked your user name and password and was dodgy dealing under your name!!
Btw i still wouldnt send and info over e-mail or fax no details leave my comp without 128bit encription

It sounds like a scam. I honestly don't think you'd get that kind of request from eBay ever.

Dear foggy_lad,

Thank you for writing eBay in regard to your account suspension.

Your account triggered certain guidelines that for the safety of the
site we had to suspend until we can verify your eBay account.

To have your account considered for reinstatement, please fax us the
following:

- *Completed* Request for Reinstatement form (To be processed, the form
must include the User ID and email address of the suspended account that
you're appealing, as well as a working phone number.)
- Copy of your driver's license or other government issued ID with your
name and address clearly visible

Also include *one* of the following:

- Copy of a recent credit card statement (copy of the actual credit card
is not acceptable)
- Copy of a recent bank statement
- Copy of a recent utility bill

To print a copy of the Request for Reinstatement form, go to:

eBay.com - SafeHarbor Request for Reinstatement

***Important***
All contact information listed on the documents that you submit with
your appeal must be consistent with the contact information listed on
your registered eBay account. If any differences exist, you must provide
an explanation for these discrepancies, as well as documentation that
confirms your explanation.

If your eBay contact information is your work address, please send
official documentation to validate this.

***Important***
Be sure to include the User ID and email address of the suspended
account that you're appealing on the Request for Reinstatement Form. If
your fax doesn't contain this information, we won't be able to process
it.

Please fax all documentation to:

eBay
Attention: Abusing eBay Appeals

U.S. Fax Number: 1-877-349-1798
International Fax Number: 001 + 801-545-2700

Please allow 48 to 72 hours for your request for appeal to be processed.
Sending us an email before that time may delay your request.

***Privacy Note***
Any documents submitted to us will be destroyed after the information
has been reviewed and verified. If you're concerned about including your
credit card number, you can black out all but the first and last four
digits. However, your full name and address must be legible for us to
process your request.

To review the eBay User Agreement, go to:

If you need further assistance, please don't hesitate to reply to this
email and let us know.

Sincerely,
Willow

Hi, this is my first post. Just had to respond to the eBay post. That is most definitely a scam mail. You should never respond to anything like it. One way to tell is to pass the mouse cursor over the url links and look at the actual urls.

It should always begin with https://. And the genuine eBay will not be 'ebay, com'. If in doubt send the mail with a short query message to: spoof@ebay.co.uk

eBay will come back to you almost immediately. They are hot on spoof and scam mails. I've been with eBay for several years and get these scams quite often especially if I have just posted an item for sale. Check out the advice on their web site re spoof mails.
Cheers,

Hi Foggylad,
I will be very surprised if those messages are from the real eBay. When I used the cursor on the scam message content you posted, the urls were most definitely not eBay. The real eBay will never demand money and will, in my experience, always cooperate with you in response for information. It sounds like your account has been phished and that would happen if you responded to the original scam mail. Even clicking once on one of the links could be enough for the bad guys to access your PC. The eBay Ireland site comes under the umbrella of the UK one and I have on occasion had to refer to them where a dispute over non-payment in a purchase has arisen.

When you attempt to log in to the eBay site make sure the Web site address you see starts with https://signin.ebay.ie/ Any other address is spoofed.

If you keep getting those scam mail demands report them to the abuse section of your ISP with a copy of the scam mail. If you ignore them they will stop, eventually.

However, the scammers can be very persistent. Very often they will keep on annoying you until you pay something in the hope that the mails will stop. Problem is, once you pay they know you are 'vulnerable' and may keep on coming at you. Sometimes, the only way out is to set up another email address.
Good luck!
Dickiesam

This has to be a scam without a shadow...Proof of address, bank statements, photo ID's.....NO COMPANY would ever ask for that.....

What scammers try to do is steal your entrire savings everything you own even your ID.....A bit like "Sandra Bullock - The Net".....

I have never bought anything from ebay, but I've bought things from Komplett and they never asked me for such proof.....

BUT DON'T EVER. EVER, EVER, EVER GIVE OUT ANYTHING WHICH THEY HAVE MENTIONED......

Contact ebay Ireland explain the situation, print of copies of the e-mails.....If they admit it.....

Tell them to stop or you will be forced to take legal action.....

But like I said 100% Scam,

Lofty

Default Scams... not just eBay!

And Foggy_lad, don't forget to watch out for the Nigerian Scam as the Met call it. That's where someone, often the widow of an African Army general or a high-up bank official has a multi-mill fortune they can't get out of Africa and send you an email asking for your help in exchange for 15%. All you have to do is give them your bank a/c # so they can transfer the fortune out. And there's the World Lottery one, you've won a million and they need your details to pay you.. The list goes on and on....
Good luck,
Dickiesam
