Microsoft Virtual PC 2007

I've just started to use this free piece of software from Microsoft. It's good for testing programs that you wouldn't want to chance putting on your real harddrive, before knowing the risks fully.

Here's what I've been using it for:







It's so easy to use it's unreal. It works just like a real PC, almost!





See, it's pretty well laid out and simplistic to set-up. The toughest part was finding floppy drive images for DOS 6.22 and Windows 3.11, and getting a Windows 95 boot disk (with DOS CD-ROM Drivers included), as I don't have a floppy drive installed in my PC. But hey, once I got going, it was a sure thing! I've even got the Windows 95 TCP/IP set-up to read off my router, and I can surf the net on it as normal (using Internet Explorer 5.5).


Please note that your host Operating System may not support Virtual PC.

Here's a list of supported host Operating Systems from Microsoft:
Windows XP Professional, Windows XP Tablet PC, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, and Windows Vista Ultimate.

You can do some really cool stuff with virtual machines like that

I remember demoing an entire solution to a client remotely using an older version of that software - it was slow, but it functional (client was logging into my pc over dsl!)
