Default Anti virus

Hey guys im using avg i know its good and all, but which anti virus is the best for the job, can anyone actually compare them to each other keeping in mind that norton and mcafee are the major sellers on the market and that they slow down your pc majorly while booting up.

I don't like McAfee as it interferes with other software too much for my liking.

When I'm using Windows I always use F-Prot

Default Anti Virus.

Depends if you want to Pay or not. F.Prot is good. Nod32 is meant too be the best. Avast has a good free one as well. Kaspersky also has good write ups. For fast scanning cant beat Nod32 or F.Prot.

When it comes to a corporate desktop cost is hardly a deciding factor

my two cents on anti virus, is sophos is the dogs bollox, has more definitions than any other, just you need to pay for it and i think they are not really intrested in home users. avg works fine for me has caught around 7 viruses, plus running more than one virus checker at the same time is not a good idea, stick with one whichever one it is.

I'm using Avast, like it's free with free updates. I have been using for 2 and half years without a hitch, throughly recommend it.

Default Anti Virus

Using ZoneAlarm internet Security Suit 6 for €30 from Amazon usually €60. It takes care of everything and does'nt keep my pc occupied either. Excellent

People in the know will recommend nod32 or Kaspersky.
People with too much money and/or fast computers will recommend McAfee or Norton.
People that haven`t tried many Anti-Virus programs will recommend AVG.
Me,I use Kaspersky

Default People in knowledge use Kaspersky

Hello Krlll
Would you like share some features of your best security software. I am very concerned about softwares and their effect on the computer speed. Doest it slow down your computer, like getting response late, extra time in opening documets and applictions. Cheers

If your worried about Anti-virus slowing down your comp i would recommend Nod32.
Download it here
http://www.eset.com/download/index.php

Read about it here
http://www.eset.com/

Its only a 30 day trial but you can at least try it.I have tried pretty much every virus checker there is and settled on kaspersky, you should be able to get a trial of it off download.com.
Do not listen to anyone that recommends AVG.Its not that good.People are recommending it for daft reasons."AVG is great it stopped all viruses getting into my computer"haha how do they know?Put it this way i have scanned my comp with AVG and got an all clear then uninstalled it,installed Kaspersky and found 4 suspicious files.Unless you have a really old computer get Kaspersky, dont believe me?Read this impartial review

Good luck

I'm using F-Secure 6.0 and I've been very happy with it so far. The only feature that I wish it had would be to manually configure programs allowing them to connect to the web. Currently a program will just attempt to connect and you either allow or disallow it. A problem lies in that it might try to connect over and over again until you finally allow the stupid thing to go through. Other than that I've had great success with it!

I find that a bit harsh. Are you basing this on the free version? I wouldn't let anything but AVG be used in our plant.
Plus the 2 year pricing is great and we have a local Irish reseller who supply at a lower cost than buying directly.

Default AVG Free

I had trouble with Norton and the support was a joke. Also found it to be intrusive, as well as hogging resources and huge updates.
Switched to AVG free some years ago. Totally non-intrusive, small updates, never a problem. Also use zone alarm, usefull for telling you about programs trying to access internet, and spybot S & Destroy occasionally to delete spyware.
McAfee give a (free) site advisor for firefox (Much better and safer than IE).
