Default Registry Fixers

Does anyone here use a registry fixer? Can you recommend one? Or are they a complete waste of €25-€30?

Default Registry fixer

Hi,
If you mean registry cleaners I actually use 3. Each one seems to find a problem or redundant entry that the others miss, and I run them regularly at least once a month to remove the accumulated 'rubbish'. These are the ones I run:

Regvac from Computer Software from Super Win Software
System Mechanic from iolo technologies - The PC Tune-Up Experts
Registry Cleaner from Registry Cleaner from RegistryOptimizer.com

I have used System Mechanic for years because of its other utilities but I would consider Regvac possibly the best registry all-round cleaner, with Registry Cleaner a close second. For simplicity and ease of use the latter comes first.
Cheers,
Dickiesam

Any recommendations on what type of cleaner that someone like myself should use - ie. I know very little about computers.

Something simple, easy and preferably free. I know ist probably asking the impossible.

Default Registry cleaners

Hi Deckie28,
For someone with little knowledge of computers, and for free, I'd recommend
Benbyrd's suggestion of CCleaner at CCleaner - Home .

Otherwise, one of the programs I use, at Registry Cleaner from RegistryOptimizer.com
For $29 it's a dead simple program without any confusing bells and whistles, and it works.
Good luck,
Dickiesam

Default Reg Cleaners

If you read the tech boards, you will find that reg cleaners actually do very little to help your computer. They just give you the peace of mind that you are tidy. So, go with a freebee like CCleaner. It does enough

Why do you need one?
System running slow/connection problems.. heard every body else talking about them?

If you are trying to fix a specific problem then please specify.
Most problems can be fixed better with a reg edit than a complete fix.

Warning
Sorry but registry cleaners are not for everyone.
If you have a 64bit Os then stay away from reg cleaners unless the specifically say that they work/designed for 64bit Os.
trust me, been there done that. (Format and re-install )

Many people have no problems running reg cleaners BUT, Not evertything a reg cleaner says is safe to remove or delete is REALLY safe to remove or delete.
If in doubt STOP. Google the Key/Item in question before deletion.

Ok.?
ccleaner is one of the easiest things to use. both for file cleanup and reg.. but not the most comprehnsive.

Default Cleaners

If you are using CCleaner on a system with multiple logons, remember to run it from each logon. (One of the reasons I had to see a computer come in with 5 or 6 useless logons.) Also, run the file cleanup twice as it doesn't remove some of the more recent files, it just marks them for deletion. Personally, I find reg cleaners fairly useless, but I've tested CCleaner on a lot of systems lately, including Vista, and it has had no problems.
