Question Eircom New Software?

Hi,
Anyone out there know anything about what is causing a significant increase in disastrous slowdown in download speeds?
My ISP is trying to get to the bottom of it-I'm on 1Mb in an "unsupported area"near Cork, last Saturday my speed nosedived from circa 650/780 kbs to a woeful 25/35(less than dialup)-having complained to my ISP several times,a supervisor contacted me and in course of conversation said that they had been inundated with complaints similiar to mine,as had other ISP's whom they had contacted-it seems there is a general problem possibly caused byteething problems with new software Eircom are installing upgrading Exchanges in a number of areas. What are your experiences?

Unhappy Crap Connection Speeds

Alan,

I'm on UTVInternet in the Cork area (Rochestown) and my connection has been utterly crap! I had 5.8 Mbs this morning and then it drops through the day to around 100kbs and sometimes as low as 50 kbs with my all time low of 2.7 kbs a few days ago - totally unusable during the evening.

I phoned UTV Tech Support for the 3rd or 4th time concerning this problem and found out that the upgrades carried out by Eircom on a lot of exchanges to boost the speed they were capable of, are having serious problems and not just in the Cork area.

It's something to do with "interleaving" whatever the fudge that is! It's aparently been escalated to management level within UTVInternet and they are not the only ISP thats suffering from the problem.

Will post again if I find out anything else.

If nothing improves within a month I'm off to my cable TV provider for a 10Mb connection :-)

Wink

Thanks for your reply-I'm glad to know I'm not the only one suffering-UTV is my ISP also-if this problem is as widespread as they say(BT was mentioned to me),why are there not other ISP users similiarily complaining?
Like you,I'm also looking for an alternative-in my case it would have to be Wireless

Eircom are/were upgrading all lines to faster service.
Older lines could not sustain 12mb transfers and eircom are/were in the process of upgrading all lines ie 1mb lines to 2mb, 2 mb lines to 3mb and 3mb lines to 7.6 with the top 12mb for business.

Only found this out while doing a goole search for connection problems.
No announcements were made about the free upgrades to eircom users and I still suspect there are teething troubles as my connection speeds have been erractic.

What this means is that any service that relies on Eircom exchanges (lol all that I can think of with the exception of cable) will no doubt experience problems with quality of service.

Makes me wish I had a reliable but slower service.. disconnects and slow downloads are not what i'm paying for.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE!!! (In the Dark)

Default Speeds

My BT connection has settled down some. It doesn't go quite as slow as it did for a few days, but it is still up and down the scale. I try to get my work that requires a lot of downloads done in the morning.

A lot of people have been reporting issues with their dsl speeds in the last few weeks, but it would appear that this is linked to the upgrades
