Default What do You use BitTorrent for?

With the increase in BB penetration, using torrents to download files has now become more viable for the Irish online community.

What are your download preferences?

It's handy for downloading software like the latest Ubuntu or Redhat releases.

Question

I'm no big fan of Torrents - you start downloading a file, get 95% of that file within a couple of hours and then your computer sucks in vain for months to get the missing 5%.

Depending on the filesize you have used a good fraction of your download limit without getting the file.

Using UseNext has some advantages as you get your files immediately and complete but it costs.

Damn you Howfast. Why didn't you make it a multiple choice poll. I can't vote. I download every choice your poll lists! I'm a torrent whore, to be honest.

Anyways, the reason you end up wasting your time downloading torrents to xx% and are never able to get the full set of files etc., is because you don't check the peer list. Use your client to see who is uploading to you, and within the list of peers, check if anyone has 100%. If not, then it could be a waste of your time and download allowence. I too have fallen for the trap, and it's all because I didn't check. Usually happens when you see a list of peers all stuck at the same percentage. That means everyone who has the whole set of files has ceased seeding, and the torrent is essentially dead.

Just be careful!

You need to change the torrent sites you're using. I've been using torrents for 3 years now and I can honestly say that never happens to me (not that I can remember in the last year anyway). It used to happen because people like the RIAA would seed fake file to stop people from downloading music. But I don't go for stuff that the RIAA might be watching so I'm hoping I'm safe. I don't know if they still do that.

Maybe have a look at a couple of private trackers. They'll generally have piles of people seeding and shag all downloading (which means you can download at the max speed of your link without having to pay fees to news sites). They'll normally have comments on the torrents too so if you see 20 comments saying don't download or it has crc errors you'll know not to waste your bandwidth. Even Torrentspy though has a comment system so you can spend an extra 20 seconds reading the latest comments to see if there are problems with the torrent. Saves your download cap in the longterm.

Torrent are donkeys

although its totally free

with a premium account for a file hoster rapidshare because everyone uploads there (10 a month) you can download at full yes full speed and find everything you want quicker than torrents all with the help of 1 forum

Usenext is good but they prey on not so familiar people and charge extortinate prices
which is a joke if you know the easy way round

iv no problem anyone dropping me a pm

Did you read my post at all? If you know what you're doing with torrents you can get whatever you want and at full (yes full) speed. If you don't you can pay other providers a tenner a month for exactly the same stuff you can get for free on torrents. It's your money I suppose. I've got a 3Mb link and it's really, really easy to max it out when I'm downloading from torrents.

O contraer

yes you can at times but if theres no seeds or not enough you wont

there are many sites like warez-bb that have the content and i know most people once using forums like that and a rapid acc will gladly choose it over torrents

Also your forgetting to mention most isp's here have a usage limit
so when downloading 1 file from a torrent its really like 2 once you add on what youv uploaded

I used uTorrent (presumable pronounced mu-torrent). Nice, tidy little program and I used it for downloading my weekly fan sub of a tv-show I like.
