Angry Broadband in Ireland

when are the government gonna get some bloody structure in place down here?

When i lived in the North i could get a 10mb NTL connection for the equivalent of 50 euros. I move down to Dublin and theres bugger all choice. Cant get NTL in my area, actually ordered IBB over the phone but the engineer never ever showed up to install it, so 2 months later we got Smart.

Smart to be fair has been pretty reliable for us up until whats happening now, but still only a 3mb service and still costing too much in comparison to other countries.

Not impressed, Ireland get with the times!

true Chris, and im happy at that. Still believe that Eircom will cut us all off long before the end of 2006 though. Hope im wrong.

Ireland in comparison to other European countries is way behind though. A Swedish guy i work with was telling me that back home he can get up to 100meg connection in his apartment. He laughs at the fact we can get 1-3mb connections here.

You are completely right - perhaps customers should do much more to complain about our 'third world' services. Of course actual 'third world' countries usually have excuses we don't.

Perhaps the poor quality of services generally in Ireland is an indication of the kind of society WE are? If enough of us express ourselves clearly, insistantly and to the right people things might improve sooner rather than later.

One hand clapping is all very well, but it is only when we cop on to OURSELVES en masse that things can get better. Don't wait for some one else to do it; start pestering, annoying and insinuating your views on those responsible now. Dempsey, for example, will only act on issues that seem to relate to numbers of votes.
