Thumbs down New Eircon owners join Ripoff Republic programme

I was doing some catch up reading when I came across an article about line-rental charges in ENN. It looks like Babcock & Brown Capital, the new owners of Eircon, have decided they just want more money from the Irish fixed line customer.

Apparently line rental charges are calculated on the basis of the teleco getting a set return from their investment in the network. Not satisfied with your return? Doesn’t matter your in Ireland now, just think of a new number and say that’s the network investment, and hey presto an immediate increase of upto €60 million in profits.

If I was a believer in the system working for the good of the community I could say ComReg wouldn’t wear such a blatant attempt to rip-off the consumer. But then as witnessed by the many posts on this site from people who tried to engage ComReg it is obvious they have neither teeth nor any interest in the consumer, just making sure the likes of Eircon don’t go under for want of increased profits.

You know it’s funny that Eircon didn’t seem to be profitable until it was taken over by big business.
No, I’m sure there couldn’t be a connection, could there be?

Default Head In A Hole

I'll say one thing about ComReg. I've never spoken to them, nor even heard of them until I became a member here. However, whilst listening to Matt Cooper the other day on Today FM, and the discussion about cold callers (I used to be a cold caller, but hated every minute of it ), they had the DPA chief on along with the top guy in ComReg. Mr. ComReg was going on about how many lengths were being taken to stop the cold calling to opt-out customers, and he couldn't have licked the telco's h**es by thanking them for their co-operation more if he tried. I mean, he sounded as if he was praising the pope! He kept saying it over and over again how grateful he was for their help.

So yes, it appears that Eircon and the other telco's have ComReg right where they want them.
