Default no way

I dont think so..

All they do is make excuses and take your money.

Have not had a decent line since sept, and all I get is bull**** when I ring.

I was relatively happy with IBB until about 3-4 months ago.
Now its just gone to S***.

I have heard from a very reliable source within their "organisation" that they are getting 1200 orders per week and have now realised that the network design "is **** and cannot handle our current customers" aparently they are trying to upgrade their network and it will take another few months to get their house in order.

I get the feeling this is just a smoke screen but if a couple of months pain means that they do get it right I wont mind once they offer their clients some sort of compensation.

But none of it excuses the fact that they have a non existant customer services department who do not reply to emails.

Tip

It might be worth the pain to wait for two months, but its surely not
worth the money your paying for nothing in the meantime. Ive been
there before. You have to look for a better alternative. Its the only
way to keep the providers honest. If everyone did that we wouldnt
be in this mess.
If it means paying a few quid extra a month, its worth it if you get
a more reliable connection, better customer care, and more hair on
your head due to less tearing out. Believe me !

they really are a bunch of wasters. i was trying to order the ripwave and they charged me. two weeks later, i still did not receive the modem. i phoned them and he said he would refund me. so i said 'well what about my modem' and he said 'well i can raise a new order for you but you'll have to wait 6 weeks' or so.
customer service, eh?
reading the feedback here i'm glad i didn't go with them...

Default and they call it broadband

I have a 2Mbps connection with IBB. I have been complaining about it since it was put in last July. I was told that my local highsite was being upgraded and when this was done everything would be working perfectly.
Well it work for 3 days and then returned to the same old thing.
My usual D/L speed is about 60 kbps but this can run as slow as 6.5kbps and the U/L speed isn’t worth talking about.
At least when I have a dial up connection it would run a constant speed, and it was as fast as what I’m getting now.
I have received several emails from their second line engineers saying that the situation has been rectified, I log on to the blacknight speed test and all I'm getting is more of the same.
So after 6 months of complaining about this they have finally told me that my connection cannot be fixed or brought up to the proper speed.
I don't know how they can sell this as a service when it doesn't get even close to its supposed operating speed.
I have demanded that it be taken out and my money be refunded.

I got the 1MB breeze around September 2004 or so/ It absolutley flew. However since this summer, when I was "upgraded" *cough* to 2mb, it's become unusable. I'm in an NTL enabled area (just found out tonight!) So I'm going to give them a go. Can't be any worse!!! This service is now junk. Everyone who can should just walk away.

Heck, I'll even rent you two cans and some string for say €5 a month instead. It'll work better than this lot!

On the speedtest last night between 10 and 60 download, i.e. at or less than Dial-up. Getting about 850 upload.

Conclusion: The contention ratio is WAY above 20. Hence download time is destroyed as most people download. Upload still works reasonably well as people do far less uploading of course.

Hey, it's just like any asynchronous setup. Just the wrong way round!

NTL here I come, can't be any worse. (Famous last words.)

i got the 2mb breeze service installed yesterday, at first i was pretty impressed, was managing to download at 220kB/s approx 1700kbps which is good considering the max on a 2mb line is going to be around 1800kbps, but ever since its slowly dieing on its ar$e...can now only manage 866kbps and upload of 494kbps - which is a load of $hite considering they advertise this as a symmetric service..

have emailed tech support with my test results but i doubt anything will come of it.

can a few others post what speeds they are currently getting?

thanks

The figures you quote are about what I am getting at the moment.

I'm currently getting 797 kbps down and 664 kbps up, on a 2Mb Breeze connection. They have been up and down [mostly down] like a yoyo in the last year.

And if you get a reply to your e-mail, that'll be a first! They are notorious for a) never answering e-mails and b) never answering the phone until you have been holding for at least half an hour.

christ what have i signed up too!! if they dont respond to any emails or calls then i will cancel the direct debit - from past experience it normally grabs there attention

been doing more speed tests this evening, according to auditmypc.com using there speed test iam getting 2028kbps download and 257.4kbps upload which would be nice if it were true! still not getting over 57KB/s on downloads.

maybe we should all come together, and start our own ISP - show them how its done!!

its getting worse! Tried again early this morning, i am in killaloe so i doubt many other people would of been connected at that time, and i was getting 840kbps with a maximum of 1.2Mbps, upload was only 150kbps. Last night, i had to just give up, it was so slow that DNS was timing out....the laptop nearly went out the window

Cant even access the irishbroadband website this morning - says it all really.

Have emailed the Limerick area account manager and someone else too to try and put a little pressure on tech support to get back to me but so far nothing back..

Got bad news for you.

IBB are the worst possible con I have ever seen, I myself have posted many threads here warning people about them. It's true that they will NOT reply to your calls or mails unless you spend an hour on hold. This is a old company ploy to get rid of complaining customers, and you normally only find small dodgy plumber firms etc. pulling this stunt.

The Idea behiend it is that if you call during working hours, chances are you are on a lunch break or a company phone, this in turn means that your time is limited, as you want to eat or you dont want the boss taking your head off for being on the phone for over a few mins.

This way you are forced to wait until you get home to ring, and at that stage, you will get the "we are sorry, but office hours are between,,,etc", this now means if you do hold for ages and get a answer, they can just say that there is no one there that can help you until the morning!.

And Furthermore, if they are forced to ring you back, they make sure to ring your home number. as that way it is less likley that they will have to talk to you, because during these hours you are most likley at work.

In a court of law you are asked did you exhaust all forms of communication and did you get a response.

They can now say that they rang but you never returned the call!.
This covers them so you have no argument if you claim you were ignored.

They are very aware of what is going on. it was planned and they have made Millions from all the subscribers they managed to get. But only a handfull are happy. This however is enough to keep them open.

I myself on the last call asked how many times I had been logged as calling. I was told, three including this one.

I made over 40 calls.

In the end I just told the bank to cancel the direct debit.

Couple of tips.

keep screen shots of the up/down speeds and keep the as it is proof that you have had bad or no service.

Hold on to your phone bill to show how long you were on the phone.

When you do get through, Have a pen and paper handy, ask for the name of the person you are speaking to.

Dont be afraid to cancel the direct debit, It is not illegal, it just means you are WITHHOLDING PAYMENT, and not refusing.

Dont let them bull you about a breach of contract, they are well aware that they are in fact, in breach of contract with you!.

Bear in mind that eircom have upgraded a lot of the exchanges, so check your area availability.

In the end if all else fails.... Dialup was faster and more reliable then IBB!.

I hope this helps anyone who feels cheated by IBB. There is no point hoping they will get better as promised, they wont.

Angry To IBB or not IBB?

Hi I am new to this forum.

The reason I am here today is because of the speed test on this site.

To cut a long story short, I am a customer of IBB and have a 2MG a/c, the usual story - grand at first and then S*** for about 2 months! I discovered irishisptest and found that at times, my speed was less than 24kbts up and down!!
I rang IBB (hanging on for at least 30mins per call) and after many calls, I was told that someone using a local router was interfering with my signal. It took a full month before they came and rerouted me to a different mast.

Now my speed is always over 1.7MG both ways (I check every day) but for all my troubles IBB have only given me 2 weeks credit!

I don't think that you would call me a happy customer and my advise is: scream and shout at them

By the way, I was informed by the two fitters that the ratio that they are told to set 2MG customers is 24/1 although my contract states 20/1

hi vinnie

my 2mb line has been slow from the very start - fastest download i have done yet is 180KB/s which was a ftp from heanet.ie, i am sure irishbroadband have a huge pipe of bandwidth into heanet or something because there is no way i get that download speed anywhere else. Tech support are saying there is nothing wrong with my connection - i would call 13% packet loss and avg download speeds of 100KB/s a problem..I have never had anywhere near 240KB/s

called someone called katrina in finance telling her i want to cancel, she told me i cant because of the contract, i told her that the contract means $hit because they have never once provided me with a 2mb connection...waiting on a supervisor to call me - i doubt it will ever happen...its only been a week and i am already sick of these useless f^ckers! I think the thing that really annoys me is the amount of bull$hit technical support would like you to believe, i install large cisco networks for a living so know what $hite their talking.

Hi Anoble66

Yea, been there, done that and definitely don't want the tee shirt!

Where are u located? I am in Terenure and 2 of my neighbours (100 metres) have IBB. One had terrible trouble at the start and I don't know the other guy, but the strange thing I noticed the other day is that all our aerials point in different directions.

If I have any further problems, I intend to follow up each call (yes it's crazy that support is only there up to 7pm) with e-mail to them, which then can be used for an official complaint to ComReg about the service. I suggest you do the same thing. Make it a rolling e-mail (complaints and answers (if any).
Keep up the pressure; it’s your only way
