Default IBB and the Playstation Network?

Hi everybody,

I got my hands on a PS3 recently and hooked it up to the Broadband connection . I thought great... now I'll be able to play some games online. After a few attempts over several days of trying to connect to the PS network, I keep getting logged out and getting time-out messages. Does anyone know if this is anything to do with Irish Broadband or is it just the Network itself? I can access the web browser on the machine no problem and also get no hassle on my PC. Any ideas?

I use an XBox 360 myself, so not too familiar with the PS3, but you have to open up certain ports on your router to connect properly.

Thanks for the reply, but I don't use a router. I just have the Wireless connection with IBB. An Ethernet cable just plugs from a radio unit into the computer.

It's an issue with the IBB network - there a number of topics which have cropped up over the past while on boards.ie regarding this.

Any idea what the problem is? Do you think I should change my provider?

From what I've read on boards it seems to be packet loss on IBB's network that causes the connection to be lost. Some say it could be due to oversubscribing their masts, but only IBB can confirm that. You could get on to them, see if they could do anything their end, or perhaps send someone out and switch you over to another node (mast) which could be less busy. It may even be just a matter that your radio unit isn't fully pointing at the mast you're on. The upload speeds on IBB Breeze would be great for online gaming if it worked properly so it would be nice if they could get you sorted!

Failing that, it may be time to switch ISP...

I got on to IBB the other day and they said that they have no problems with the PS network and I have no problems surfing the net and what not. If what you say is true then maybe it is time to change provider. Thanks anyway for your help Kensington.
