Angry IBB Throttling - Again!

OK , this has nothing to do with with throttling torrents or anything similar ( I think we all know IBB are doing this anyway ) , this is a new one , IBB have started throttling the entire 1MB ripwave service in Louth . My always slow connection has degraded to the point that I might as well be on dial up the past few weeks , and upon ringing technical support I was informed that they are now throttling everyones speeds because people were downloading too much . This is on a service advertised as having no cap or download limits ! .
I think they've oversold the service again and can't cope . Has anyone else in the Louth area experienced the same problems recently ?

Ok...

The Ripwave service only gets capped per customer per billing cycle if they're downloading over 50Gbs a month which is ridiculous. Trust me from experience that 3 or 4 heavy users can make the Ripwave service crap for everyone else connected to that highsite. Ripwave isn't for heavy downloaders... try a higher end service instead like Breeze. They're well within their rights to do this if you read their AUP.

That's not what I was told , I was told it was being capped for all users. Anyway
since IBB don't see fit to share that information with their customers how is anyone supposed to know that ? . Another point would be how is anyone supposed to know how much they are downloading with no way of keeping track
of their bandwith usage , why does everything have to be so frustrating with Irish Broadband why can't they just use a monthly allowance and software to keep track of your usage like everyone else ? . Throttling peoples connections without telling them why = no customers . I'm going to Eircom in a few weeks so you can take that as fact.

Enjoy!! My folks just switched from Ice to Eircom coz Ice were so crap but they're sorry now they did! Eircom are worse!

Anyway...

Ripwave is ok for checking email etc but if you want to be downloading you have to go bigger. I'm in Drogheda with 3Mb Breeze and while I have had my ups and downs with them I find that IBB have improved a lot. With a bit of tweaking I get 350Kb/s with torrents which is max for a 3Mb line. This is on a private tracker site - don't expect speeds like that with crappy public sites like mini-nova etc.

Just did a speed test on this site and got....

Speed test statistics
---------------------
Download speed: 2938104 bps
Upload speed: 2920648 bps
Quality of service: 99 %
Download test type: socket
Upload test type: socket
Maximum download pause: 12 ms
Average download pause: 3 ms
Minimum round trip time to server: 24 ms
Average round trip time to server: 66 ms

VoIP test statistics
--------------------
Jitter: you --> server: 0.6 ms
Jitter: server --> you: off
Packet loss: you --> server: 0.0 %
Packet loss: server --> you: off
Packet discards: 0.0 %
Packets out of order: 0.0 %
Number of supported VoIP lines: 49
Estimated MOS score: 4.3

Can't ask for more from a 3Mb line.

My only complaint now is the price. €48 a month for 3Mb when you can get 16Mb for €12 in the UK and 24Mb for €14 in France is taking the p**s!!

Thumbs up Thanks for the reply !

Yeah , I was probably being a bit unfair - I was really pissed off when I wrote
that first post. Thank's for the info , I'll think about it and maybe I'll stay with
them for another while. Totally agree with you on the pricing - we really get
screwed every way in this country !

That's possibly your contention building up to the max as more users join up and then improving again as more lines are added thus dropping your contention again. Just a guess.
