Lightbulb New here

Hello folks!

I just moved from the south suburbs of Dublin into Dublin city centre and I got an IBB Ripwave last week (It came quickly in fairness!). I installed it and went online to check my emails and it took ages! The speeds are simply awful!!!! I got 45kps when I tested it online!!!!! Anything less then crappy 56kps dialup is an insult in anyones eyes but IBB must be taking the piss with this!!!! I live on the top floor of an apartment block and the Ripwave modem is right beside the window, there is no excuses for these rubbish speeds!

Has anyone in Dublin city centre got anywhere near the advertised 512kps speeds???

Default Don't fall too fast into despair

Hi PhatNutter,

I live also in city center (Mountjoy SQ Dublin 1) and sometimes I get donwload speeds of around 30KB per second. That is, like a 512kb ADSL.

First of all, it depends on several things:
-The number of concurrent users. Remember that we have a content ratio of 42:1 or something like that. So at peak time don't expect more speed that a regular modem.
-It depends on your connection to the access point, how many stripes do you have in your modem?
-And at but not least, their access point sometimes does not work properly.

If your problem is that there is too much people in your are using IBB in your area, you'd be better off changing to another provider.
But if your problem is the connection signal, build the antenna screen to make the antenna unidirectional (somebody in this forum explained how to get the best connection possible).

Hope this helps.
