Exclamation IBB reply, oh to their dismay... test results BAD

i got a reply from IBB customer support!! i threatened them with the "i know the contract is not valid, you have 48 hours". i've also contacted com reg and the dept. for consumer affairs.
here's the email

Dear Mark,

In relation to your connection problem i would like you to run

a few tests and record the data so we can trouble shoot this for you.

1) Please go to the following site ftp://ftp.esat.net/pub/FreeBSD/ISO-IMAGES-alpha/5.4 and try to download the file named 5.4-RELEASE-alpha-disc1.iso which is 580Mb in size. Right Click this file and save

to the desktop on the PC. If you are using Internet Explorer please double click on the named file and choose "save as" and this will show a window with download speeds. Delete this file when finished or cancel after recording the speed.

Please record the download speed with a screen shot as far into the download as possible and attach it to this mail. This is important as it will update this open ticket.

2) Please do a ping test by completing the following:-

Click Start/Run and type CMD (For Windows 98 Type Command), when the DOS window opens please type ping -n 100 www.fas.ie please record the result either as text or

a screen shot. we do not need all the pings just the summary report at the end

3) After this test please do a tracert using the DOS Window test by typing the following

"tracert www.fas.ie" and record all data from this test.

4) Save all this information and attach it to a reply to this email.

Once we have this we will be in contact with you within 24 hours to update you on the issue.

Please note that you can open tickets and review your account details at our Customer Self-Care website.

45.5 kB/s is a lot faster than dial up.... a lot. It's still crap for broadband though.

45KB/s is 9 times the speed of dialup. Dialup is 45kbit/s typically and can vary from 33kbit/s upto about 52kbit/s.

It is still terrible for a 2mbit/s connection from irish broadband.

Good man yourself. Tell me that my comment is useless when you have no clue what you're talking about. Very good.

Gib contact IBB technical support and ask them check out your problem in this order :

1) Ask to check out your Radio and SNR (Signal : Noise ratio - an indication of interference that could be affecting your signal) .
2) how long have you had this connection from ibb? If you have had it a long time and it has been fine for a long time then something may have changed in your locality which inhibits your ability to communicate with the atrium highsite and by now there may be an alternative high site that you can be switched to.
3) if you had this connection for a short time it may some ibb network outage/issue?

some other things other things to aware of :

A 2MB deal contended at a rate of 24:1 - means 24 people will share the same connection.

So if nobody happens to be online when you are DLing you get a max dl speed of 256 KB. If everybody is on that connection at once your DL will be around 12 KB.

IBB don't charged for installation it is free.

i've only had it a few weeks. its been the same the whole time. and i cant ask irish broadband anything if they refuse to respond to me. to further the poo up, NTL and Smart Telecom are not available in my area, so i feel even more trapped with irishbroadband. they should very well have checked the signal upon installation, if they were in any way competent. this is ridiculous

and the fee was mentioned on this site, "Old 22nd April 2005, 013 AM

Default Current Speeds
Just for the record, the current speed with Ripwave is 206 KBPS Down and 45.1 KBPS Up. I checked the price of Breeze and it costs €149 to instal and it is €35.99 per month. It is advertised on their site as 1mb so they are not far off BUT Ripwave is advertised as 512 KBPS and I have NEVER seen that speed measured on my computer.
