speed is usually 120-130kbs, but goes to zero every 5-10 sec. signal here is very good(4-5 of 5) and i tried longer usb cable to find better position for data card.... but nothing... only result you can get is something broken because i tried attic, roof, neighbors chimney... . so am i satisfied? @#$% :#@$%#$ !!! on scale 1 to 10 broadband provided by 3 is -256525452000000

Hi Guys,
Previously I had a Vodafone 3G PCMCIA Card and it seemed fine.

I am thinking about getting a Three 3G PCMCIA Card.

Just wondering but is it the USB Thingy or the PCMCIA Card that you have problems with (I might get an external antenna for the card if I get it)

Thanks
Eddie

I got the usb version. Its fine during the day, its probably comparable to the 1mb perlico bband that I had previously but in the evening it is intolerably slow. It's unusable.

I'll be bringing it back as soon as I can find a wireless supplier that will find reception at my house. If they tell me I cant I'll accuse them of false advertising, the evening time is when I want to use the f'''cking thing and its slower than dial up in the evening

eh just fyi they have 14day returns policy and stict to it fairly rigidly saying once you know about it you should return within that time if unhappy with modem or data card! i also had modem and returned it as customer care were USELESS

ps: love the name lol

You cant sell some thing that does not work the way you advertise it, just because you can return it after 14 days. FYI if a product does not not do what it says on the can, under Irish law you can return it up to 28days after purchase with a full refund, and after that a year (sometimes more) the seller is obliged to repair replace etc with a product that matches the description. These modems never get up to 3.6mbs so in my opinion if you are unhappy with the service go look up you rights under Irish consumer law and get your money back.

Not at all...just instruct your bank to cancel the direct debit...then its up to 3 to argue their case.

the bank will always re apply the direct debit if asked by 3 as you are responsible for charges up to 6months after account closes.

Any reasonable bank manager will not allow the DD to be reapplied if they understand that you are not receiving the service which the DD was for in the first place.
If your bank values you as a consumer they will assist you in receiving fair treatment..

Default Another one!!

3 was the only way I could get broadband in my part of Cork earlier this year so I signed up for the Data Card with a 3GBbundle for €39.99 a month. It worked really well for about 1 week and since then it's worse than dial up most of the time. To add insult to injury they introduced a 10GB bundle for €19.99 a month from June and didn't notify existing customers and offer the new package. I phoned them on 15th of June and was told I would be changed to the new tarriff from my next bill. Two bills later and no change!!

you need to document the speeds you get at peak AND pff-peak times then send a "formal complaint" to them giving them 10 days to fix it before telling them you want to move to another provider as three are not fulfilling their contractual obligations. this seems to be the only way to get through to "3"

I've an O 2 3g card , works fine for me speed is usually around 1.6, in most cities i go to, even in the house as long as i can get one bar of 3G signal (usually -105db) , but once it switches to gprs , forget about it.

Hi,
Yeah I got that a long while ago - had it all over Ireland, North and South - was grand during the summer.
I got the antenna from the 'Three' Shop in Savoy Centre in Cork.
Now its a small lead but you could splice it using a BNC or similar and use it then outside - it did increase the signal strength.
Its just a small flat antenna but if you could extend the co-ax lead then it would be a lot better. I had it outside a camper van that i was using and it was fine.

I also got a Netgear unit which I can plug in the PCMCIA card from three into.
Then you can get normal wireless lan out of that.

OK?

I have a friend in west cork who gets regularly .5mbs+ while having no bars of reception, showing on the interface program. If you can get a signal at all with either device that should be ok, but i'd get the usb just because its not restricted to a laptop. The problem is that 3 advertise that you can get speeds of up to 3.6mbs, when they are fully aware that in reality this can never be the case. I recently saw a 02 modem in cork city running at a steady 2mbs in the middle of the day,if you have 02 HSDPA where you want to use it id look at that first, the problem with 02 is HSDPA coverage is very limited...
