Thumbs up Hello - New eircom broadband user

Hi all,

I am an eircom Broadband Home Starter (1Mb/128kb) user. Been connected for just over 3 months and have had good service with consistent downstream/upstream average speeds of 845kbps and 98kbps respectively. This is not unreasonable given that I'm 5.9km from the exchange!

I've had two problems - one where someone shooting crows took out my line for 5 days. Not eircom's fault and they did fix it reasonably quickly. My current problem is that my Netopia 2247NWG loses sync every 3 minutes and the downstream SN margin degrades steadily while the line is up. Three calls and one email to eircom, along with extensive checking of my residential equipment, has pinned the problem to a major line fault. Should be sorted in a week.

Three observations:

eircom customer support have been very helpful.

My spare ZyXEL Prestige 600 router holds sync with no problem even if my Netopia won't.

You should see the state of my 'phone line: 5.9km of ivy covered poles, overgrown lines and lines sagging in ditches. It's a miracle it works!

Cheers!

Cheers,
Simon Woodworth.
Yeh Simon The lines are in a terrible state around Ballywilliam!

Say Hi to Shel!

Surprised they permitted you to get it - normally they don't even talk to you unless you're under 4km
