Default hello

HELLO EVERYONE,I was one of those people 2 years ago who should, not have been in the same room as a computer but I have come on a lot since .I learn something new every day on my comp .At the moment I have 1mb download with eircom and have just signed up for 2mb .What I want to know is does the download speed make a difference when I am online gaming with other people who have a faster speed ? Do they have an advantage with faster speeds. Another question ,is their anything I can do when other people cause lag to their advantage when they host? cheers and thanks people

Hey, lag is a killer when it gets out of hand. Being a world of warcraft player im all to familiar with lag and to answer your question yes lag can give other players an advantage over you. If its realy bad you could be dead before you know it, if its minimal then your gonna get some seriously glitchy game play which will effect your performance.

On the other hand if your geting full use of ur 1mb line and another player is using a 2 or 3 mb line there shouldnt be any problems since any gane ive played uses less than 100kbs. Most games ive found run very well on a good performing 1mb line.

As for forced lag by hosts.... never heard of it so i cant give u an answer. If anyone else reading this has then please give ur 2 cents .

You'll only lag when playing online gamess if your ability to ping the server is compromised. Your ping is determined by your distance away from the server, the route your connection takes (hops) to connect to the server and of course, how your own connection performs. The first 2 factors can't be helped. The distance is determined by geography and the route is determined by the IP you hold (not 100% on that, but I've seen the route to a given server can vary from your IP to IP).

Dante is correct though. If you're getting maximum use of your 1mbit connection (fast responses [non-sluggish], and as fast a speed as possible) then you're likely to be ok.

Do remember that in the world of gaming, especially on international servers, you're likely to come across people with different pings due to different locations worldwide. That's normal. Also, you'll come across people with super high pings, usually coming from people with broadband connections of less than 1mbit (poorer countries ). You're never gonna have it 100% hassle free. It'll either be you or someone else!
