how do i get a second computer connected to telsey wireless router

hi
just wondering if anybody has experiened trouble connecting a netgear wireless usb adapter to magnet.
i bought this for a second computer that i gave to the kids which is upstairs but had lots of trouble and eventually gave up.
magnet support NO HELP!!, they used some 8 bit versus 13 bit encrption excuse. they use 13 bit and netgear is 8 bit. is this true. the main computer is connected via a cable.
any way around this or do i need to buy something else.
