Hi Rory,
I was with Magnet 8mb BB a year back. Speed is excellent. But I changed your service to BT because of some issues. First one is that your telephone system is not good. That will work from the modem only. If something happened the modem, drop the internet connection or power failure the phone will also not work. We can't use our own modem or won't get any configuration information from Magnet. Also your IP addressing system is not good for me. Because yours also dynamic ip address system but it will change only after 12 Hrs. Some free downloading sites will allow only one or two files in a day. BT and Eircom are also using dynamic system and after restarting the modem we can get renewed IP and download more. Still these things are same in Magnet? Cheers.

Im very sorry but a lot of this depends on what technology type you are using. Are you in a fiber to the home development or are you using ADSL2+?

Default poor wireless connection

Hi Rory
i am having alot of problems connecting wireless, have resorted to connecting my other computer through port 2 on the router, and the laptop through port 3 on the router. I can only pick up a wireless connection when standing next to the router, which really defeats the purpose. its a telsey router.
Please advise.
thanks John.

This could be caused by a whole host of different reasons. If you PM me your details i can escalate.

Default Magnet

A magnet (from Greek μαγνήτις λίθος, "Magnesian stone") is a material or object that produces a magnetic field. This magnetic field is invisible but is responsible for the most notable property of a magnet: a force that pulls on other ferromagnetic materials and attracts or repels other magnets.

A permanent magnet is one made from a material that stays magnetized. An example is a magnet used to hold notes on a refrigerator door. Materials that can be magnetized, which are also the ones that are strongly attracted to a magnet, are called ferromagnetic (or ferrimagnetic). These include iron, nickel, cobalt, some rare earth metals and some of their alloys (e.g. Alnico), and some naturally occurring minerals such as lodestone.

Although ferromagnetic (and ferrimagnetic) materials are the only ones with an attraction strong enough to a magnet to be commonly considered "magnetic", all other substances respond weakly to a magnetic field, by one of several other types of magnetism.

An electromagnet is made from a coil of wire which acts as a magnet when an electric current passes through it, but stops being a magnet when the current stops. Often an electromagnet is wrapped around a core of ferromagnetic material like steel, which enhances the magnetic field produced by the coil.

The overall strength of a magnet is measured by its magnetic moment, while the local strength of the magnetism in a material is measured by its magnetization.

Hi Magnet(Rory).

I have just signed up for the silver package FTTH and have ran some speed tests.

The average up/down speed is about 1.80mbs, with fiber optic broadband I expect the speed to be no lower than 2mbs up and down, there is no reason why it should go lower than it's rated speed, so I was wondering if you could have someone look at it for me, I have also sent an email to tech support and I am waiting on them to get back to me.

And fair play to you for being here, I am sure you will be well received

Just bear in mind, those speed tests are not always accurate, a better test is to download a large file from a high bandwidth source and literally do the math from there (1MB=8Mb). If you are still experiencing problems please contact me.
