Default Got it sorted ! smtp.magnet.ie

Your incoming POP3 server address is in the same domain as your email - e.g. mail1.eircom.net or mail.oceanfree.net but you SMTP outbound address is usually in the domain of your ISP - unless you are allocated a static IP address.

That's unlikely, as most ISPs restrict SMTP access to their own clients

Will that work for any Magnet / Netsource IP or do you need to have a username ? ie. do I need to authenticate?

Thanks

Michele

Default SMTP mail server for Magnet

Hello There

If you have a static IP address assigned by Magnet you'll need to talk to them as to how you set up your outgoing SMTP email. Ask for Level2 support.

As I get an (NAT?) DHCP address for my PC from my Magnet modem, I use smtp.magnet.ie for my Outlook for outgoing SMTP mail.

G'luck

try few different ones.
if you have gmail.com - try smtp.gmail.com
for @eircom.net - smtp.eircom.net
if your email is yourname@servername.extension
then try smtp.servername.extension
as i found on my magnet there is no port forwarding, or smtp servers or any other settings for inbound/outbound connections.

blacknight, that's interesting, I never had any problem using another SMTP server over eircom's network.

Jonathan

Ps silly me, eircom don't alocate a fixed IP to private clients over ISDN service. Don't know about their broadband service.

I think you've misunderstood me completely.

You connect using DSL or whatever using Eircom. Eircom let you access their SMTP.

The SMTP servers are completely open to any user on the network without any extra authentication being required ie. the IP address you are using is the authentication.

Eircom doesn't block port 25, so naturally you can access other people's SMTP while connected (as long as you authenticate)

hi blacknight
Thank's for your reply, I have a lot to learn. When I signed up with Callidus I expected to get a public IP address, I suppose I just don't know how wireless BB networks are setup.
