Hey guys, i've got my magnet in today, and guess what, i can't do a thing with my router. ok, i can try to access it @ 192.168.2.1 but it wants login/password. tried admin/admin, admin/password, admin/root, root/root etc. i'm trying to use PuTTY to establish ssh connection and reset password.
i think thats way too unfair that after paying 50 yoyo you can't set router to your liking.

There is nothing you need to change. It is not a router. It is a Switch.
There is nothing you need to change. It is not a router. It is a Switch.
So what difference does it make? And more to the point, I have never heard about wireless switches. Even so, the security settings should be accessable.
And what do you mean that "There is nothing I need to change"?????
And what do you mean that "There is nothing I need to change"?????
I should have been clearer. With other DSL networks the dsl modem is acting as a router and is also preforming NAT. In order to enable online gaming or P2P applications it is neccessary to configure port forwarding.
A port can only be forwarded once so it is hard to support multiple users with this approach and so a bridge solution like Magnets is I believe better.
Thats what I ment by nothing to configure.
Quote:
And last one, switch requires a gateway computer to deliver internet to network, this device i have connects to ADSL (ie phone line) and routes this to all PC's connected to it.
The modem does not route.
In the case of the Magnet network the gateway device is the DSLAM in the exchange. You have to think of your phone line as a long ethernet cable which runs to a port on a router in the exchange.
Fair enough, I was having that idea in mind, that they are not working on DSL system. Anyway, let me assume that i will not have any problems with p2p, gaming or any use of internet and programs that require internet. But what about connecting my PC's to that Switch (i'll use that term for ease of understanding in this conversation), the thing is that for wireless i would like to have MAC address filtering, as this is best for my current configuration, since one of laptops has to keep settings for different network.
To avoid extra conversations, let me clarify that i did try to use WPA, WEP and the rest for home wireless as well as keeping settings i mentioned above, but the way laptop setup as part of domain elsewhere, the easiest way was MAC address filtering. So my current wireless at home is open network with only MAC address filtering, and it works perfect.
So all i'm really looking for is to setup home network where that Switch will be part of it, and i want it done my way. Besides, i need to know what is the animal this switch and whats its settings before i can have peace of mind when it is part of my LAN.
Colinw, you seems to know a lot about magnet, maybe you can tell me more about they network structure. Of cource if you have time and it is ok with you. Cheers.
I'm not familiar with the telsey modem/router at the minute so I won't comment of it too much.
What I do know is, I have magnet lite and I was supplied with a 2wire modem/router and I got the same bullsh*t, as in " it's out router, we don't allow access to the settings". Wtf is the idea of this?
My opinion is, I'm paying you fuc*ers over €80 per month including phone calls so I'm getting access to that router to port forward, it's mine while I'm using it.
Of course magnet was saying, " we don't block ports or traffic ".
It took me a couple of weeks but I figured out how to access the settings of the 2wire modem/router.
Turns out you have download a driver for the 2wire router and hook it up via usb cable and type "home" into your internet browser.
When I accessed the settings and went into the firewall settings, they had the firewall on the MAXIUM protection and there was a list with lots of game titles in it, and if you add one to the allow list, it'll allow the port for that particular game to be forwarded and also you can allow your selected ports aswell.
I think the customer has a right to these settings.
Is there a usb connection on the telsey modem?
If anyone finds out how to configure the settings on this telsey modem please post how and I'll gladly do the same if I figure it out
Hider if your having problems and you think it's down to your ports and can't access the settings on the telsey, well then connect your linskys/netgear to the telseys modem and port forward from that and you should be good to go.
Thats the only way I can think of.
Someone must have accessed the telsey settings, so hopefully it's posted soon.
Right then, i will keep on trying to bypass login/password. If i come up with anything or find anywhere, i'll post info here straight away.
Just was on the magnet tech service on the phone, they said to me that most of the customers don't want to configure anything, so they disabled any access to the router settings. And they don't want us to screw up they settings for phone/broadband/tv. By the way, i mentioned to him that i need mac address filtering, and said that they have no idea on how to do that for me, still refusing to provide me with password. Had some other issue when i rang them, and after 30-40 mins on the phone didn't get it resolved, your man said that he'll discuss it with his collegues and will call me back asap with the solution, I managed to sort it out myself later, but still no call. I'll see if they gonna call 2m, otherwise i'm impressed with the speed, compared to NTL max which i was on previuosly.
Another thing, aparently there is a reset switch on this router, but it is inside. The only way to get inside is to break the waranty seal. Otherwise, if you are carefull enough, you can lift plastic casing and have a look on the right hand side of the red light (there is 4 of them, the extrime right one) there shoud be 2 pins, short them with anything metal, ie screwdriver, and that should perform soft reset.
****WARNING, I HAVE NOT DONE THIS MYSELF, I'M ONLY QUOTING SOMEONE ELSE. IF YOU WANT TO PERFORM ABOVE STEPS, PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOU FULLY UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE DOING!!!*****
Hider, why are you doing it the hard way? For a start the telsey IS NOT a router, it's a gateway switch. You need a proper router between the telsey and your computer('s), then you can change what you want and get all your settings like mac filtering etc.

Willy, as mentioned before, there is a security issue. leaving telsey as gateway and introdusing another router is firstly gonna make a mess with cables and settings. secondly extra power consumption, extra money for new router. and so on....
so this why i would like to gain access to telsey, and avoid the mess.
P.S. do not post this king of replies, u know they don't add anything new. if u trying to show that u are smart, then u wrong, ur post is not useful in any way.
