Default Nova 2007

Hi everyone,

Dave here from Nova, back on the forum. I've been monitoring the forum over the last year. Funny how things are quiet when there are no problems! Still, we are really enjoying work at the moment, nice and busy deploying wireless broadband, fibre access, MPLS, VPN and lots of nice new IP technologies, etc. We have some great people working at Nova now. Hope things are going well for all of you.

I've got on my soap box about 3G cards/Huawei dongles on the site if anyone is interested. There are certainly some interesting threads on this site about the topic, e.g.

3 Mobile Broadband
what about 3G internet ?
Hi, just asking about 3

I have been using a 3G data card for quite a while now, when on the road, and I have been appalled at the quality. It is a constant source of frustration. I just can't wait to get back "online" at the office or home!

I'm so cheesed off about how this hampers my daily work, I've written a little commentary online here: 3G Snailband, the Inconvenient Truth

I'd love to hear some comparisons regarding your experiences comparing 3G and broadband.

All the best for now...

Dave

Dave i am not one of your customers but i am happy to see isp rep's willing to post even in times when there are no problems reported and you guys over at nova must be doing something right if noone has an complaints for a while. Its just a pity more providers are not as interested in their customers as you seem to be.Keep up the good work man and who knows if you ever manage to get a basestation near me i would be more than happy to give you guys a blast.

Alot of the buzz surrounding (and presumably why people get sucked in) to these mobile broadband offerings is because they either don't have any other option. From the people I've spoken to since before getting broadband, with nova as it happens, I was almost convinced to sign up to the 3 mobile offering. 3.6mbit/sec, great! Err, maybe not. That's 'up to' 3.6mbit, presumably if you're sitting on or living next to a mast.

I've heard that the drop in speed is considerable and quite sudden once you get any kind of distance from a mast, leading me to believe that the much touted nationwide (or almost) HSPDA isn't as wonderful as it could be.

Yes there are cheaper options than DSL or Wireless, but ultimately you get what you pay for. I'd rather know I have consistent 1mbit upload than have to say a nightly novena for decent upload speed.

Welcome back Dave; You do indeed have some great people working there now. Only last night I emailed support about a problem I was having, not really expecting to get a reply until Wednesday / Thursday, as per the usual situation with most ISP's. Got my reply within 15 mins (and that was at nearly 1am). Kudos.

Default Cheers lads...

Michele, good to be back. How's all your new kit working out?

Rymus, no worries. That's what it's all about...

.:iE/Dixy, you've given me an idea:

While we are providing business solutions nationally, our residential product is available in the Cork area at the moment. We are seeking out areas of Co. Cork where people are still struggling to get good broadband. If anyone has any coverage requests, I am just about to start a new thread to allow people to vote for a new base station in their area. Why not have something like that here? This is where the interested people are!

I am afraid i am slighty outside you coverage area mate, living in north Dublin but like i say you never know. I was just impressed by a company in your line of bussiness actually caring about the end user unlike almost every other provider who seem to think the customer is only an annoyance to be put up with. Keep up the good work man

I have used 3 here and in the UK, it must be said that here you do not get instant response and that certain activities are blocked (however there are ways around this), The 3 man claims they are rolling out buckets of bandwidth. In the UK they have bandwidth and while I would not use it for gaming its good enuff for most other uses, even skype.

So in a 2 horse raise between Nova and 3 I'd go with 3 every time.
