into Ireland that does anything near my 3mg line I will be changing
Maybe you haven't looked around. There are loads of companies in Ireland that offer a 3mbps service or better. Most companies offer packages around 512kbps, 1mbps, 2mbps and 4mbps. Just look around and you will find what you are looking for.

To follow up on this, a technician came to my house last Saturday morning. He checked cabling at the house and at the manhole on the street. Fair play to him, he did his job properly. He replaced some cabling/connectors in the manhole, and also some cabling inside. TV reception is now perfect, even C4 & E4. BB DL speed averaging at about 1.96 mb/s Happy now !

Default NTL ****e? Too right!

I'd just like to agree with Delboy there. I'm also from Tallaght and had the 1Mb service for about the last year or so. It was relatively trouble free until around the time of the upgrade to 3Mb. Since then in early June it seems, although say on a Sunday morning I can achieve nearly 3Mb per sec, any time there's a high demand at all it drops down to about 500kb/s and pings shoot way up. It's so annoying. I've talked to them at least twenty times about this and have had the technicians out and the whole lot. Still no joy. They keep giving me excuses, and the only reason I haven't cancelled the subscription is because I haven't been living at home this summer, and also if and when it's fixed, I'm going to get my account credited.
Anyone else having similar problems with this crowd of Jokers?

Default Supposed to be 2MB ...actually 1mb at best 512 normally.

Just got off the phone with them ( for the third time today )
and I quote...

" the service goes up and down,....it will be up again by tomorrow. Try then and if theres still no joy then ring us back."

Hmmm after being told by some nice person in Dheli that the service was fine and that ...get this..."the computer can not be trusted when it tells you what speed the connection is"

FFS

why cant they admit my service has been botched and come out to fix the damn thing!

DEATH TO NTL!

Believe me, DSL has it's own problems too - my line can barely handle a constant 2MB smart broadband connection, simply down to the fact that the lines from my house to the exchange are not of high enough quality. I know many people also who used to have a great broadband connection until the speeds went up to 1mb/2mb at which stage they had conenctions dropping all over the place. As a matter of interest, I got a guy in smart to up my speed to 8mb - the most my line could handle was 4.4MB and this was not a constant 4.4MB, this would be 4.4MB then dropping down to maybe 200kbps and then to 1MB and back to 4.4MB and then the connection would drop altogether. So I'm very doubtful we'll see 8MB over our phone lines soon...

Any ways, NTL are absolutely ****e, as soon as another BB Co. comes

the ping times to the server are crap, leaving me to not be able to have

3mg line and asked for it to be canceled yesterday. After I had been
on the phone to there Head over BB Joe something. He told me that
there was a problem in my area and that they are going to fix it, they
just don't know when.(I am now getting credit on my account from the
time I rang in first about the problem, until its fixed.)
Meanwhile, my friend, who lives three doors down from me is being told
NTL BB Support that there is no problems in his area, and that there is
nothing they are gonna do.

My friends who have not yet got BB. just be patient and wait. Soon

Are you for real?

The transfer rate in the screen shot means absolutely nothing!! You could have been downloading via a slow aerver. Go to apple.com; download iTunes and you'll get the real transfer rate. I don't see you posting a screenshot from IrishIsp test....w@nker!

You game tools are all the same! :P

Eh, I'm sorry but last time I checked, 341 KILOBYTES per second translates to over 3 megaBITS per second so no matter what he was downloading off, those speeds are excellent for 3Mb broadband.

And I doubt we will see either 8MB through phonelines or even 40MB through cable anytime in the near future - first of all, to get reliable 8MB the phone companies would need an (expensive) upgrade to ADSL2+ which means replacing all of the ADSLv1 modems (over 100,000 I believe). And, in order to get 40MB through cable, NTL / UPC will need to change everything over to DOCSIS 2.0 or even DOCSIS 3.0 and, AFAIK (could be wrong though), this also will need equipment upgrades in the headend and possibly new cable modems for everybody. And tbh, I think ntl are more interested in getting 100% cable broadband coverage in Dublin, Galway and Waterford first. NTL's systems are good up to about 10 or 15 Mb per second downstream.

And really, why would any of the broadband providers bother upping the speed? Unless they face competition from other higher speed carriers there is no logic for them to increase speeds.

you definitley need to pop down to an optician while you're downloading stuff.

take a look at the estimated download time on the masterpiece you submitted muppet

Time estimated left: 1min 20 sec (5.36MB of 32.2MB)
Here boy, I'll do the math for you:
with 1 min 20 sec remaining, you receive in that time: wait for it the remaining 26.84 MB.

mmm yeah, sounds like the 3mb is not doing it's stuff for you. (well not on planet Delboy anyway)
SOOOO if you want to roughly work out your speed in 5min 20sec you would download.
Da Nah- 107.36 MB
Yeah, head off to another ISP, I'll say they'll be thrilled to get a toolbag like you to subscribe to their service.

You may want to write a little note on the contarct you sign though telling them to open the windows straight away when you call through.
WHY so they can leave the ****e you're babbling on about out the window.

D'ya know what? EEJITS like you should be PROHIBITED from owning a PC. LOOK AT THE SCREENSHOT!!!! 341 KiloBYTES per second translates to almost 2.7 MegaBITS per second. Hmmmmmmmm........and your broadband isn't working properly. If you're going to offer criticism on ANYTHING, at the very least you should get your facts straight. Tosser.

Ah that would be slumming it - only 10 - 15 Mbps??!! Don't agree with your last sentiment though. That's up there with the one made by the Chairman of IBM in the 60s, when he stated that he thought there would be a market for about maybe 5 to 6 computers worldwide.....
