Default NTL - thumbs up!

I've got the 1 Meg service - constantly clocks at 976 (sometimes a meg).
Well done NTL!

Default Thumbs up, ntl?.. I'd say up by the thumbs with ntl!

Because I live in social housing, whereby we are not allowed have satellite dishes, I was 'forced' to use ntl as my provider for telephone,TV and Internet services.

I have had so many bad experiences with ntl, ranging from their own engineers taking THREE DAYS to install my broadband because they had no knowledge of the inter-reaction of their broadband software and computer operating systems; constantly having to reset the TV box because it wouldn't refresh properly itself; waiting up to 15 minutes, listening to recorded messages and being presented with myriad different 'press button *' options, only to be put through to a call-centre in Delhi, whom, although extremely polite, (more so than their UK counterparts..), were unable to help me resolve my problem.

Their telephone customer service is abysmal, and faults which occur outside 'office hours' (theirs), go unresolvable until their call centre re-opens. In addition, they are not really that cheap: their phone and TV services are relatively expensive.

In addition, even if you do not wish to use their telephony services, they still charge you line rental, for a service you don't use or want! They force you to buy channel packages which they predetermine, and which are designed to maximise revenue from each customer. They do not allow you to choose your own desired range of channels, and if they did, they would probably increase prices to ensure the move was revenue-neutral.

Their interactive service is abominably slow, in comparison with Sky Digital, their handsets are of poor ergonomic design (I have arthritis in my hands and find it very difficult to use their proprietary unit). They bar you from being able to use any directory enquiry service but theirs, they do not advise customers paying for voicemail that there is a free version of the service where the message is pre-set electronically, their bills look awful and are not laid out logically, look photocopied and contain little useful information for those who wish to scrutinise their bill carefully.

Whatever else you may say about ntl, I could not agree with your overly-enthusiastic 'thumbs up' to ntl: hang it by the thumbs is what I'd say!

I wouldn't exactly give NTL thumbs up. Their service is pretty shabby. Some roads give terrific broadband service, low contentions, low pings and very fast. Other roads are horror stories of dropped connections, high contentions, high pings, low download and upload speeds and general poor service. And their customer support is pretty poor too. The other thing I don't like is that you need TV with them aswell. Hopefully UPC will give NTL a good shake up as the service could be excellent if the money was put into it.

aolbf you live in social housing, and have satellite TVand broadband access. Lucky you! Most people in this country have to pay rent or a mortgage and can't afford such luxuries.

And if you don't want a phone line then get rid of it. Simple as that.

Just cause you aren't allowed have a satellite dish doesn't mean you have to use ntl for you internet access.

I'm 4 years with NTL now and on 3mb, using the speed test here it always aboue 2.92mb and has only been down once for 1 day when the whole system was down. I haven't had any problems with the service and when contacting support on the freefone number use your mobile and you get trough quicker because there paying for the call and their system will reconise the mobile number and jump the queue.

Default NTL - Never-Totally-Linked

NTL must be the worst provider in Ireland. My 3 meg is a joke. The uptime over the past 2.5 months is 70% yes 70%. I was not aware that they provide any customer service at all.

NTL is pretty hit and miss tbh. I had their digital TV which was incredibly bad - they don't do broadband on my road for whatever reason. People in my area who do have NTL Broadband say their's no problems. Yet there's people in other areas of Dublin who are cursed with dire connections from NTL, and areas which have perfect digital TV reception :?

Seems it's just a matter of luck whereabouts you live as to whether or not you will get a decent connection...

They just dont want to do the necessary repairs to the poor infrastructure in my road to provide a decent service. A common Irish problem unfortunatly. No one who actually needs a permanent net connoction can use them with confdence.

I don't have a Skoda, so I can't really comment wheter they are a bad car or not, I'd imagine that not having the ntl bb service sorta says that you shouldn't be commenting on that either, as they's say in the Simpsons hearsay and conjecture !!!

HOWEVER, I do have the ntl BROADBAND service, and I'm delighted with it !!!

So let's get this straight - you don't have NTL broadband and you're criticising it. Some pair of b@lls bud!

I wasn't criticising it, except for the fact they don't do my road! Do you really think I'd care whether they did my road or not if I didn't want it? I HAD their digital TV service which was incredibly bad, which is what I was critiscising. Perhaps I should have stuck to the topic of broadband...
