I'm in clondalkin and I noticed NTL speed issues since last night too. My speed test results here are up and down like a yoyo - but if i download any file from a Irish server, heanet for example i get full speeds.

However I'm getting between 20k and 30k a second on anything outside of the country.

Spent an hour onto NTL, got me to run tracerts etc and they're insisiting theres nothing wrong with the NTL network, that its the external servers that are causing the trouble. So, bascially the whole world is running slow except Ireland according to them, which is bull****.

Not a happy camper :-/

So what your saying is that you have the 6meg connection now, if so what whats the actual speed test result?

Are they upgrading everyone to 6megs or do you have to call them?

Originally the 6 MB upgrade was supposed to be 10 MB but rumour has it that NTL could not guarantee that speed.
So what they did it drop it to 6MB to guarantee the speed , whose going to complain about having 8- 10 MB on a 6 MB connection !.
Since my upgrade went through early yesterday ive had great transfer rates from the ftp.heanet.ie server ( 1.11 MB/sec ), but this is not matched in any other speed test.
For example this sites speed test gives me a result of 3MB – 3.5MB, other speed tests give me much the same result as this site.

Haven’t got on to NTL yet , but I will be later.
I have a feeling they'll just test from ftp.heanet.ie !!

The upgrade is due for general release in early April , I called up to enquire about it and after a bit of haggling I was upgraded over the phone.
As far as I know all new customers upgrading to the MAX speed ( was 3 MB ) will not get the 6MB ( which is really 10 MB), but all existing customers will have to call to upgrade .

Worth a try.

Default ntl upgrade

I was onto ntl just today the sales section got through within a min or so
they said the same thing that 6meg connection would be the guarentee
but he also metioned that 10meg connection was stable. But i dont know for how long i would say once everyone has been upgraded that the ntl max users will fight over the speeds that ntl can handle.
