Default NTL service in Waterford

Hi all - I am currently with NTL and supposed to be getting 6mb download speed but have never managed more than 1.5 but more often its as low as 0.25mb. When I rang they said there are 2 reasons; 1. I have a wireless router and this will cause my speed to drop. 2. I can access my PC in the office via a VPN and they are saying that this is putting a serious drain on my download speed. I don't know enough about this stuff to challege them on it but it sounds a bit fishy. Anyone able to help me?

Get rid of that wireless ****e lads (unless you're using laptops), I used to have the same problem until I connected to the modem directly (which I was told to do by a member of NTL).

The wireless always has problems and will let you down time and time again.
