Default O2 broadband and email

Hi, using an O2 broadband modem, but having problems. First is it is so godawful slow, would be better with my trusty USRobotics Sportster Flash, 10 years old. Apart form that- I have a support request in about that with O2, I cannot send emails through my normal accounts.

I was with ESAT-BT at the last house, and was able to send e mails through both my eircom and iol accounts, but now neither will send. The eircom one keeps coming up with a spamhause error 451, something about ip blacklists, and the error for the other one is that "this computer has no compatible way to authenticate". Can anyone else still use these servers with O2? I can't find any info about O2 having their own SMTP server.

I am sure that Eircom don't limit sending to folks dialling into them, cos it worked for years after defecting to BT, but does is IOL limited to only its customers. It could just be speed issues- I get a lot of timeouts, probably because I was successfully connected on EDGE last night, and getting the grand download speed of approximately 233b/s. Impressive Huh? That was with a 5 bar signal strength. (That's b, not Bytes, and not Kb, just b)

Any info would be gratefully received,

Thanks,

Ian

Going by the speed you've reported, I would suggest taking this back to the store to have it checked, especially if you just bought it within the last few weeks, as it seems like a faulty card. Usually when I hear complaints about the mobile broadband services, it is about them being slower than ISDN or 56k dial-up, but certainly not below 1kb. If you have bought this within the last 30 days and still have speed problems after having the card checked, it would be worth taking it back for a refund and consider another broadband provider.

In my opinion, the outgoing e-mail issue may be related to your connection. However, if you would like a few suggestions to try, for the outgoing SMTP, ensure it is configured to use authentication with the same login details as your incoming server. If this fails, try changing the outgoing server to smtp.o2.ie (without authentication) to see if this works when you are sending e-mail while connected to O2.

my o2 broadband modem arrived in the post today and apart from the pin number not being included it works flawlessly! i only have at most two signal bars but the speeds are amazing compared to three network which had full signal but lacked speed and reliability and ease of connection!

there are some areas these modems are not/never going to work and around the eire og clubhouse in carlow is just such a place if on the three network! my new o2 thingy works perfectly, even at this time of day i am getting 350kb up and 1.5mbps down and no issues with my windows live mail which has 4different accounts including my googlemail

also i got a refund of modem cost from three as the huaweii E220 is not fit for its intended purpose as it is not strictly vista compatible as per the huaweii website and the vodafone site! there was also issues with the modem heating up to a dangerous level.

o2 works here in carlow but it may be worse than useless in other areas so if it is really that bad you should think about trying another provider.

just a quick update on o2 the bubble has burst! since a network crash yesterday my broadband speeds have been pants! it is so disappointing seeing speeds this low from o2!
