Why is it there is a different excuse each time you ring them up?

Looks like the high wind might have knocked your aerial out of allignment.

There is an engineer working on the mast in your area.

One of the masts in XYZ is down for maintenance and there is a strain on the rest of the aerials now.

Is there heavy rain by your house?

Default Mast Problem

My service is coming from Ashbourne and I also have crap speeds and Timing out as of late and there is no other Wireless providers in this area as far as I know,so I think the Mast problem is not only Swords or Lispopple.Has anybody done a constant ping to there server , to check for time outs ,and bad ping rates which should not be affected by contention rates.

Default Update on my 3 Mbps 16:1 contention service

I'm in Ashbourne too. Ice made some software adjustment to my aerial and my download speed improved, I was getting 200 Kbps on a regular basis over the last couple of days.

But tonight I am down to 42 Kbps. A colleague in Germany downloaded a software package in 45 minutes from one of our ftp servers; I started my download 5 hours ago, and it'll be another 4 hours to completion. I haven't asked him how much he pays for his service, I'm depressed enough already (I have to stay up till it finishes to kick off another download, I need both for tomorrow morning).

eircom is my way out - they have their faults, but my bro-in-law here uses it with no problems.

I'm on the ashbourne transmitter too. Speeds today were all over the place. Excellent one minute and down to 56k the next. Ringing tech support is a joke. Phone is never answered. How did their service get so bad? It used to be brilliant.

Default I quit

5 Kbps tonight again.
No reply to my email at all. Wouldn't it be good if they posted on their site to let customers know they are aware of/working on a problem in a certain area? You get the feeling that they aren't bothered. I would have stuck with it if I felt they were on my side.

So, I'm off to eircom.

Ray

Default Seems OK here

Been on holiday the last 10 days, so no knowledge of that time, just run a test now, and getting 800+ down, 230+ up, on what is a 1 Mb link, so if there was a problem, it's not visible today. Having said that, we're not far from the mast at Rolestown, so if there are interference issues, we are less likely to be hit by them that other areas.

Not sure if that helps anyone or not, but for here, it seems to be working OK today, and the speeds are within the "average" band of the results I've had over the last month or so.

Pings to my default gateway are averaging 250+ ms
And about 20% packet loss.

So that will give you an indicator of the quality of my connection.

I would be gone long ago if I had an alternative.

Default 9.4 Kbps

Interesting...well, for the last couple of weeks, its been consistently bad for me in Ashbourne, unless I get up very early. Its 9.4 kbps as I write. Maybe its a capacity thing, there are a lot of new estates here, many probably waiting for a landline.

Anyway, my bro in law is on eircom and I have resorted to popping down the road to his place when I've no option.

Could be capacity indeed, I have Imagine Broadband at home in Ashbourne and it's been very stable now for more than 12 months, rarely gives problems. Ashbourne ICE is on a different mast to here, we're on Rolestown, so that might have something to do with it. Another possible is that the weather recently appears to have been wild, so that may have upset the alignment of some of the aerials. I don't know if they use wire link to the mast, or if it's microwave, if the latter, then that's even more suceptible to problems. For sure, if Chorus TV is anything to go by, they have problems with the signal from the Naul repeater dropping out on a very regular basis!

Default eircom

I finish with Ice at the end of this month and I've ordered the eircom equivalent to what I am on at Ice now, its cheaper at €48 per month for 3 Mbps, but they have a 24:1 contention instead of 16:1. Then again I don't think I was on 16:1 at Ice anyway

So I'll post back here when I've been on eircom for a few weeks, as a comparison. They tell me my modem will arrive in 5 working days, and my line enabled in 2 weeks.

My speeds still bad, 400kbps down, 100kbps up, average. Was away over weekend and had been told that the problem would be fixed at weekend. It was not. Have now been told that they encountered problems whilst trying to sort the interference problems they are experiencing at the mast i am recieving from and they will have it fixed by this friday . i will give them another chance, but am looking into other packages available here in swords and will move asap if things dont improve. the lads at support seem to be gettin pissed of with their own company though as they are being made look silly by saying the same thing over and over again. cant really blame them. If the company cant get its act together its not really their fault.

islander.

I had to come over to a mates house to post this (and to avoid those pesky kids trick or treating).

4k per second is what I have been getting since lunchtime.

The speed test wont even give a reading for upload speed.

When I EVERNTUALLY got through to tech support, they said it was my aerial that was at fault.

Just done a test now, and for the first time ever, it's below 850, I got 646 down and 234 up. It's noticable that things are slow today, so maybe something else is happening, but to be fair, this is the first time I've seen speeds this slow since connecting to Ice.

Will be watching to see what happens.
