Default Leap - Cablewatch

Hi all,
I have cablewatch, a small operator providing cable tv in a new development in Ashtown, Dubln15. (basic tv only - no digital yet) and internet via the cable too with a cablemodem. (I didnt say broadband as that would not be an appropiate term for the service I get!) Cablewatch get the internet from a Leap wireless connection and pass it onto us.

My service was fairly acceptable up to about 3 weeks ago and I have been told that Leap were suposedly doing work on equiment (3 Rock!?) and it will improve when finished, three weeks have pased and cablewatch seem to be unable to come back with any reason for the service still being so bad. Download is pathetic with less than isdn speeds and upload is semi fine, but response times is slow. It may be down to the serivice of one wireless link being divided up to too many residents!... (this leap service was meant to be a temporary solution until proper cabling/fiber to development was in situ) Cablewatch said they have stopped adding users as there is not any more capicity on service until the fibre/cables are in!

so.. anyone else getting leap from three rock?!.. and having problems.?... then I could rule out part of the supply chain!

cheers all.

Default Huoh

Hey,
I'm thinking of taking this cablewatch. Im currently living in Royal Canal Park, I think it is the same area.
Do you know if it is possible to get something else. Seems to me that all the irish providers are crap and unable to provide even close to the service that they have specs for.

Default Cablewatch are not an ISP just a reseller

Hi there,
Cablewatch are a cheapy cable company. Providing basic Cable to our development I dont thing they operate outside of "Rathborne". The have similar equip to hotel distribution system and pipe sky and similar basic channels to us. The also provide limited "broadband", though I wouldn't call it such. They have a business type link to Leap (aka Magnet) and then resell to us the lowly subscribers that dont have any other alternative. They have capped the number on the service as to add any more users would bring the system to a halt. Cablewatch are held back by the lack of fibre lines in the area and the local phone exchange that I would suspect you too are connected is not yet enabled. I have heard on the grapevine here this local exchanage is being upgraded and should be online soon. This means we will get eircoms offering!.. so expensive choices with questionable value for money. Fingers crossed smart and others come in when exchange is up.

Angry For providing the Leap

As usual in Ireland infrastucture is really bad, and we have to pay all that money for no real value. I think its 40€ for the "broadband" with the cablewatch. Do you know the bandwith of the cablewatch businessline? If there are more than 30 apartments in a single appartment block it is really easy to count how much bandwith per connection. The fibre lines should be run before the actual buildings are even finished. I think we will never get a proper broadband trough this leap. I wish things would be done in a proper way sutch as in finland or sweden. Irish coverment should make a policy for providing communications systems to the community. These things are done in other countries. What can you expect we are in the developing country of Europe.
