Typical -
Just when you think you find a good ISP the screw up. They advertised the service for E30 per month and 250 Installation. Then wanted an extra E8 per computer per month! and charged E450 for installation. As all the installer had to do was turn the antenna slightly and put in their own router this is a bit rip off. Oh and the monthly fee is now E40 + 8
well the reason for the increase in price is the promotors in the different areas are getting free broadband for every 10 connections made to that company so therefore some one will have to pay
tell podgy as there is no fixed contract with cteck in lismore, shop around for other ISP in his area that will solve the rip off and in fairness to cteck the do provide a strong signal in ruarl area its a pity that this is happening and i think it may have been in the small print about the extra charges for extra equipment connections SHOP AROUND
Well we have read with intrest all that you anonamos people have to say, now here are some facts. C Tek is a very small operation, we do our best to provide a fast quality service to people in isolated areas that no other provider will touch, due to low demand for service in that area. We started by providing this service to our local community in Lismore. we funded this using our own money, not grant's or hand outs from the government like our competetors. The demand for service grew and we were approched by groups from other areas to install the service in there communitys, this we did. Some of these areas are a fair distance from our base and require nearly a 100kilometer drive for the engineers to do an install, this unfortunatly is reflected in the price of that install. Our documentation clearly states that our client unit connects to the LAN port on your pc, if however you pc has no LAN port or you need a router to use more than one PC, this is charged as an extra ( fair and simple we think)
As with all installations, there is a standard installation and a non standard installation these are different prices.
So guess what, if you have an installation that is 2 miles from the base and uses a client unit plugged into the pc's lan port. (Standard Installation)
Then you have an installation that is 50miles from the base you have to run a cable 60meters around a factory, supply install NIC's in 3 PC's supply and install a router, configure there server to work with all this,,,, (Non Standard Installation)
Hoppi, Thank you for your kind comments about the service, yes you are right there is another service provider in some of the areas we cover, they will sell you 512k for one cent less than our monthly rate, for 1mb.
Sorry, but your comment about the promoters and the 10 connections business, is rubbish. (good idea though)
Blacknight
Your speed test is very usefull, we use it all the time, thanks and keep up the good work, you will be glad to know we have finally decided to put up a web site, don't know when but we will, just to keep you happy.
Podgy
What our friend here forgot to mention is that he is the guy that failed at least twice to get service to a customer (due to his lack of understanding of the LOS rule) he then proceeded to "stir" with this customer, they were connected to our service for over two months then refused to pay for installation and service, they were disconnected for non payment, nearly all of the other comments here are fabrication.
Just as a point we were asked by a number of people in this area to provide service for them, after no other provider would, again due to low numbers.

Check the Government site again, we have always been on it.
I think thats just about every thing covered, If any one would like to know more, or to clarify a point before posting inaccurate information on this forum, please feel free to contact us ctek@eircom.net

I was trying to email you but it is failing as you have exceeded your quota.
I think this is all a scream! I have had Ctek broadband for a month now. Yes, they did charge more for the install than I understood they would, but I had to buy a router off them (fair enough I think - if I had checked things out beforehand, I could have bought a cheaper one myself before they got here - my own fault). I asked and was told that there were 2 monthly rates , E30 (domestic) and E40 (business) - also fair enough - businesses use the inteernet more, I assume. But the bottom line is that I'm in a remote area where there is NOTHING else available, nor will there be for years, if ever. I consistantly get 1.5 to 2.5 upload and 1 to 1.5 down, and this on the very periphery of the Ctek signal. I think this service is 2nd to none
I found this thread a bit late, but just in case anyone is still reading it, here's my response!
After many, many broken promises from Eircom, Irish Broadband, NTL etc, I found Chris & C-Tek through another satisfied customer!
I struck lucky because when I met Chris in December 2005, he'd just had a cancellation and was able to install my wireless broadband straight away. The cost is more than fair, even if the other suppliers had been willing and able to provide me a service, they would have had pretty abysmal download limits and relatively low bandwidth.
In theory I'm way over the distance for a reliable service from the nearest node, but Chris was willing to try and he not only succeeded but gave me 1.5Mb download/1Mb upload speeds! Beats the 1-2kb from Eircom's dialup service any day!
Stop whingeing guys, compared to dialup any service would be good, but Chris provides a service (and a bloody good one) where nobody else cares.
