Hi again and thanks for the reply, originally Torque did not supply the router although it was stated in the connection contract that one wouldbe supplied at the time of connection..after many months of chasing them i eventually got one from them BUT when they came to install it my connection was cut by half and when i wrang them about ithey said i only signed for a 512kbt connection and that was for around 28 Euro a month but when i arrived at their office with a bank statement for the amount they were taking that was 45 for the 1000kbts then my connection went up all of a sudden..I dont know about yourself but i still have no account number just my name,As regards the ip i was assigned evertime i wrang them and got an answer they then gave me about 10 different ip adresses to try find one that worked, then i found myself having to try each and everyone everytime the connection went down.. ...Now that Callidus have taken over the network i am much happier because the network has improved although it still has little problems that need to be ironed out..Thanks again for the reply..vlf126
I live near Rathcoole. It took Digiweb 5 weeks to send an engineer to tell me I haven't got a line of sight. Customer service 2/10.
Had Callidus wireless installed. I have the Home premium package at what is defo a premium rate compared to what I am paying in the UK.
You guys are getting ripped off big time over here btw!! With Virgin cable I am getting close to the whole 20Mb broadband speed for less than 20 quid a month. No limits, no problems with P2P, no complaints, excellent customer service - one very happy customer. My Virgin cable modem failed last month. Phoned to report it. A human (nice pleasant young woman) answered my call within seconds. I was promised they would send an Engineer round. Had a new modem installed at no cost within 24 hours. Now that is service!
I am not at all happy with the Callidus service. First it is absolutely impossible to use Skype in the evenings or for most of the weekend. That is what I got it for and I'm not asking for a great deal of broadband. Lately I find that 3 or 4 weekday evenings I can't even get enough bandwidth to let me even check my emails. This lack of service is getting worse. Is there any way to check whether they are exceeding the 30:1 contention or whatever its called? If you want a service you can use whenever you need - avoid the Omnitel cowboys.
As for customer service I suspect they have an expty room filled with ringing phones and no-one answering them. I am repeatedly asked by a machine to leave my number when I phone to ask what the f*** is happening with the service I am paying for. No-one has called back surprisingly enough. I phone the technical helpline and after a few rings the phone just goes dead. In essence I have no way of contacting them to voice my complaint and explain my problem. I will try an email address I found on the net to complain to Omnitel. I will also forward a complaint to Trading Standards or whatever its called in Ireland as I deem the fact that I have no connection for a large part of the time to be a breach of contract. Watch this space.
Omnitel/ Callidus customer service 0/10.
I have no other options as I can't get cable to where I live and none of the other wireless providers have coverage.
Hi now that its about 6 months later im afraid to say that Callidus are no different to torque who i might add are the very same company with the same people working in the office(at home more likely),robaustin i got rid of callidus just before christmas because i am sick of the jokers that are left to run the scam and yes thats what it is,now i find them trying to ring me to get 450 euro they say i owe for something i didnt get in the first place,They can stick their finger up the ?ss thats connected to the body,Futher more if you ask them for the time and downloads ex usage youve had they cant give you that also if you ask them for your account number they cant give you that all they want is your money for something they cant provide, they have since threatnd me with soliciters, they can do that,io have every email they have sent, every payment i have given them all the stuff i need to prove when i had and hadnt got a connection, and once they told me we are sorry but the mast your connected to keeps breaking down and nothing they can do about it,they only have 4 masts on the saggart hill and i happened to be on the one that keeps breaking down, tell them to go screw themselves,i have since christmas gone onto 3G network,a little dongle that plugs into the usb port of the computer that although sometimes it might be a little slow but still about 10 times faster than the best connection Callidus could provide at least its always on all for 20 euro a month,Robaustin MY ADVICE IS TO GET SHOT OF THOSE CLOWNS,not worth the time or effort to ring like you said nobody answers becuase they know its gonna be a complaint about the service,Pitty you my man i know what your going through,Best of luck, kick em in the ?alls mate,Best Regards Steve
yes indeed, I have to agree with most of what you said.
Callidus Europe, or Omnitel. (Remember: Callidus bought out Torque, Omnitel bought out Callidus. Omnitel are owned by Callidus Europe. So it looks like they bought themselves.)
A 1 Meg connection in 2008 is totally ridiculous. I didn't sign up with them over a year ago because they said that they were about to upgrade to 2MB, but a year on they are still in cloud cuckoo land when it comes to speeds. The only other company I know of who has 1Meg in Kildare is the totally rip-off Quantum Broadband, who are available in Rathcoole, (Robaustin).
I thought the Callidus connection was OK, it very rarely failed, but it did slow down for a few hours some evenings, caused by illegal filesharers and downloaders ruining it for everybody else.
Ice broadband are available in a lot of North Kildare now and their download speed is 5Megs, pretty impressive, although I don't know how good they are on the residential side of things. For business use they are fantastic.
Just before Christmas I cancelled my subscription with Leinster Broadband and my life is much simpler now.
A couple of months ago one of my phone numbers finally passed the pre-qual test with Eircom and I was chuffed, so I ordered straight away. That was the day before the fire in the telephone exchange in Roberstown, which was quite extensive. Anyway, after the fire my line was no longer passing the broadband test, so I never received my BB from Eircom. Bummer
I'm using my o2 USB modem now and it's not bad, but it gets very, very slow in the evenings
Now I will definitely have to put a mst up to get ICE BB, from the church in Coill Dubh, even then I can't quarantee that will get me a signal. Oh, the joys of living in a rural location.
My brother is in Stepaside and he has 12Megs with NTL, but I still don't regard that as amazing. The Japanese cities have 50Megs, so much for Ireland being hi-tech!!. But, to be honest, I'd be happy with a connection that let me play XBox live without problems, It sound so simple, and when I say it to friends in other countries thay can't believe how sh1t Broadband in Ireland is.
Hi paulclane, the reason the broadband in this country is bad is,1 The muppets the likes of Callidus,Irish broadband and these ?hitty companies that are let get away with the silly prices and connections that they promise and never live up to what they advertise..Contention ratios my ASS,Look they can well afford to give much faster connections but instead they want to fill their pockets with the money of those people who cannot get broadband elswhere,So what they do is get second rate equipment from the states that they no longer put up with over there and install it here, then promise the moon and the stars charge stupid connection fees for Crap and yes thats what it is,I also blame the people the likes of myself who fell for this scam for letting them get away with it,I copped on aboput 6 months ago and told them to disconnect it but of course being in the frame of mind that suits them they didnt and they tried to bill me ,FAT CHANCE OF ME PAYING IT,,i am happy with 3G at the moment,at least it does'nt go down..Hey but dont we live in the country thats so rich for its size that can offer everything but live up to nothing..As far as broadband in this country we are like third world compared to the rest of europe..Anyway something needs to be done and fast to stop these cronies from ripping people off and get with the times..Regards Steve
