Well I have taken the plunge and signed up as I am in an internet black hole, no other choice available.
Anyway they have offered me a 1mbps down&up connection @ €35 per month with a connection fee of €299. Their coverage seems to be mainly east and south east.
All their details can be found at Callidus Telecom
I will keep you posted on any updates.

PS. on the speedtest what does the Quality of service result relate to ?

Many Thanks

Default Callidus Telecom Service

I've been with Callidus, supplied through IFA Telecom since Jan of this year.
The service got off to a very rocky start (nearly gave up on them but they have now ironed out bugs) .

Don't allow P2P on their network at the moment

Good support crew in that they will talk back and commit to reslove issues and work with you.

I'm happy for now as I get D/L 1-1.2Mbps and U/L 800-1000Kbps so good speeds.

Service is bit pricey though but with no opther option I'm happy to stay with it.

So you get pretty much syncronous speeds?

Quality of Service is:
minimum speed
————————————— = Quality of Service
maximum speed

Default Our service

The service is not always consistent the speed can drop to 256 Kbs and can suffer from no service at times. They have worked to provide an improved service and for a while the speeds were up to 1.2 Mbs up and down. Alas very rarely if ever seen now.

Default Maybe you have a better service?

We only checked the speed today given the poor preformance and look what we found. If it works any way decent We will not say a thing.

And this takes no account of when we just would not bother to test. Why test when it is !!!t. Not to mention Sundays when it virtually stops!!!!
We are not an experts but??? The service is incapable of supporting VOIP, another customer is unwilling to renew their subscription given their experience. We are not one to shout but the facts speak for themselves.

Thanks for the feedback guys,

I have spoken to a few locals who have signed up and the tell me the the connection here is at best average.

I am more interested in service than outright speed as I need this connection to work from home on VPN.

On the upside on speaking to Callidus they have promised to upgrade the network here within the next month as they just recently bought the netwok from a local guy and it's not upto the job.

Hope they keep their word.

Thanks again.

I'm in Allenwood South in Kildare and Callidus have a mast on Grange Hill. I'm about 3.5 miles away and the signal seems decent enough, but I went for Leinster Broadband aka Kildare broadband instead, as their installation was much chaper

Paulclane

I have ordered Callidus in the Allenwood area from Grange. I am switching from Leinster Broadband.

I will let you know how it performs...

Thanks Mullins,

I can't wait to see what you think of it. Plus the fact that there will be one less contender on Leinster Broadband

Best of luck with Callidus

Hey Paul,

I posted in the Leinster Broadband thread but just to say I got Callidus in off Grange Hill and after a few days it has been fairly good. Much better than Leinster Broadband but contention is low at the moment.

I have had some glitches and will need to iron them out, but overall so far it has been a vast improvement. I realise you need to pay the install fee again but for me it's worth it as I was throwing money away by paying LBB.

I'm sure you and the other 998 users sharing 1MB on our side of Allen will notice the improvment now I'm off the network

Seriously though, all I required was an always on connection, no major speed or anything, but LBB can't even provide that much...

Hello,
In the Kilkenny area IFA Telecom and Callidus are providing a wireless broadband service. I signed up some months ago for this service and originally found the service to be reliable. I find lately though that at certain times the download speed becomes poor. Getting support from the IFA Telecom offices I find to be very difficult.

Default Broadband

If you do not rely on broadband Use Callidus/ IFA. If you need it every day as a part of work etc stay well clear. They will let you down and service may be out for a few days. Callidus are a good bunch of guys but I have to say the money side of it which is IFA, must have the worst customer support in the world. The technology used will never provide realiable service. Use permanet if you want a broadband service you rely on, different technology used. Far better.
