National Wireless Broadband.

We now have a new Wireless broadband provider in the Wexford area. National Wireless Broadband. That's the name of their web site without the spaces as well. Have it installed since about 2 weeks before Christmas, and it is Comparable to Eircom's land line connection for speed. Their service supports VOIP and VPN where required. I get download speeds of up to 2.5mb and at times uploads of 900kbs even though the package says it is 512up. They advertise as 2mb down and 512up. The speeds stays pretty well stable. We have been fighting for broadband for the last 3yrs here in my community "Ferns, Co. Wexford" for the last 3yrs, and I for one am delighted with the service. The company is based in New Ross, and the guys that run it really know their stuff with regards to Wireless Broadband and networks in general. I had been using Eircom's broadband in my daughter's shop in Enniscorthy and I can see no difference in speeds, except for the second or two when you click on a link. It takes a little longer on Satellite. They do now allow P to P, this is understandable on this type of system as the bandwidth would be very quickly used up. I can only express my delight at finally having broadband at home, and not having to drive to Enniscorthy if I want to get a large file.

Congratulations on your broadband service. With P to P you mean peer to peer?
What do you pay for your service? And is there an up and download restriction?

Thanks, yes I did mean peer to peer. Torrents mainly. On the Sattalite system it would take up too much bandwidth, as you could have a lot of of people drawing from your computer and it would not be fair on the other users. They are keeping it at 25:1 ratio. If more than that subscribe they will put up a new dish and server to serve them so as to keep the 25:1 ratio.

It seems wireless is the way to go in Ireland because Eircom hasnt the inclination or the energy to provide a service to anybody not living nextdoor to an exchange. In Dublin I was with Irishbroadband and say to the least they dont care tuppence about there subscribers. There support team, if they suspect your an idiot will spin you yarns quicker that there service. Im in Cavan now, moved up last february 2006, im rural between Killeshandra and Ballyconnell and the usual story, I wont bore you. As if by some miracle I saw Ciara IT advertising wireless broadband. Great installation, pity on there application forms theres no mention of the 278 euro you have to pay when installation is done. Install charges + month up front. Its a 1 mb service but tends to vary. Also the gnutella P2P servar and bearshare is choked. Today running a check it was 555 down and 275 up. Last night was slow but today its backup. Im promised a VOIP box to connect to the router for my phone thats 104 euro. Its cheap money if i can tell Eircom to stick there copper somewhere where it might work. So saving 24 euro a month on line rental suddenly makes your broadband extremely cheap at 29 euro a month plus calls.
So anybody in Cavan there is a Wireless Broadband Service available so stop annoying yourself about Eircom and ring Ciara IT. Can beleive I got it , days when I pinch myself still.

Telecom has investers now don't you know, and are not interested in small comunities. The Goverment are supposed to be buying back into Eircom as investors to give them the money to enable small towns and villages. "Don't hold your breath".
I am within 100 yards of one of the most modern digital exchanges in the county Wexford, and we have been after them for 3yrs but to no avail.
My Wireless provider is 2mb down and 512kb up, but like you it tends to vary, but this is normal. Depending on the contention ratio, "ours will be no greater than 25:1" if it goes over that many subscribers they will put in another dish and server. Differant times of day you will find that more people are using it than other times, this will give you the variation in speeds. But then it is the same with Eircom's land lines. They say if you are a business subscriber you will have a 1:1 contention ratio you can take that with a pinch of salt.

CiaraCom IT Solutions use quite low contention ratios, 25:1 on your package so your speeds shouldn't vary too much. If you go to the support page on the CiaraCom website CiaraCom there are a number of steps you can follow to elimanate any problems which may be eating into your bandwidth.

National Wireless Bbroadband have upgraded their system already!! They now have a greater bandwidth, So there does not seem to be any difference of download speeds at any time of day now. I believe they will set up services any place now as long as they can get about 25 interested parties. I also believe within a few weeks they will be able to provide anyplace in the Co. Wexford with what they already have, but can go outside as well as long as they get about 25 people to connect. It is way ahead of IFA Calidas or skytel.

Well if there is anyone thinking of connecting up with the above company? think again. Transpires that it was all a load of old rubbish with all the talk they went on with.
I have been with them for a year now and have only had a good connection for about half that time, sometimes not at all. It is gone now since before Christmas, and no sign of anyone coming to fix it. But they still take your money.

We had one cowboy at the start of this and now it seems we have another. He has 2 mobiles and a land line, but can't be reached on any of them. I have sent numerous texts to no avail. Well we don't need him now, Eircom has enabled Ferns and is much better. It has to be said that this was a complete surprise to us, as we were told that Eircom was not rolling out any more in this area.
