I have never heard of them before or what their service delivery is like but some of your questions can be answered on their website :

Actually, I am a current user and think the service is very poor. I wanted to see if I got any response without my biased thinking affecting the replies. But now it is in the open, does anyone use them and what is your experience of the service provided ?

I have the rapid broadband service now for over 12 months and would rate the service at 70% ok.
Very bad last dec, jan and feb due to too many new customers switched on over christmas but ok now again.

I've been using the 2Mb service since for a little over a month. I work from home and I find things are great pretty much all the time. However, a couple of times (and one of those times has just happened) things seem to grnd to a halt for a little while and then right themselves again. The ordering process was a little ad hoc but the installation was quick and practical regarding placement of the dish and the access point.

Smile Service okay so far

Hi,

I got the Rapid 1MB service just before Christmas. The administrative side of things can be a bit erratic, but the service itself seems pretty solid. There have been one or two minor glitches... but they were quickly resolved and the speed (1Mb/sec upload and download) is always there or thereabouts on this and other speed tests.

Of course it's far too expensive for a connection that's far too slow... but that's par for the course in Ireland.

Apparently the exchange in Leap (which is about 3.5 miles away) has recently been enabled for ADSL, which means I may be able to get fixed line broadband now... which would be cheaper. But from what I'm hearing the service from the fixed line providers is pretty poor, and the high contention ratios mean they can grind to a crawl at peak usage times. There's also the whole "Asymmetric" thing -- the A in ADSL. With a 1Mbit fixed line package you typically only get 256Kb/sec upload (rising to 380 or so Kb/sec with a 2Mbit connection... and so on up the scale) -- with Rapid it's symmetrical: I get 1Mbit up and down.

For now I'll stick with them and see how we go....

Cheers,

Calvin!
