Well its good to hear that they may have found the source of the problem...I'll have to keep any eye on my connection for the next few days or so and see whether the disconnects have reduced ...
Is this an Advert or a piece on our bandwidth and connection issues

My apologies, its MR BLACKNIGHT trying to earn a few sovs more from the website, just gotta love the little ads every time one peruses a post. Pity theres nothing on USB christmas trees, given its only 120 odd shoping days to Xmas
Its happening again, since Saturday Sept 9th, my permanet connection is dropping packets, so much so that the service is unuseable, an example its taken me 5 minutes to write the preceeding. I have contacted tehm but they appear to have a DHCP issue too so I am at back of queue. The disconnects are severe enough to knock out my VPN to work, my VOIP and my GAMES. 5 days is a bit rough with limited access to the internet.
As ever, I will keep the readership informed, anyone else in the Tralee area having same problems, if so very interested in the Permanet response.
Oh well another day in the life of an Irish Wireless ISP's customer. (Bit of an oxymoron that, the customer bit)
BTW, absolutely no reference to any faults on Permanet website.
The sooner, COMREG gets over their "must whip Eircom" agenda, the better for us slubs down the country. DECENTRALISE COMREG, tehn at least those outside D4 would have assess to better broadband.
rant finished, over and out.
I lied, RANT not over, its now taken over 10 minutes to post this, cos of my ******* disconnects. Getting to point where I am thinking of starting a digital signal fire network. I got kindling, ( Damn those modems burn good, LOL), a mirror, a hill.

Hi Guys, yeah even in wexford there were a few issues with connections , myself, my brother and my parents are all using Permanet (no other supplier around) and all of us could not resolve DNS. However in fairness I have to say before yesterday the servie is great, great for gaming and we all use voip on it. That is not bad going for a wireless provider in my opinion. A friend of mine is using Calidus and they are really having problems with latency. So all in all i am happy (except when it is down of course )
My speeds are alot less than they should be due to the fact that i am right on the edge of the coverage ..so i get a fair bit of packet loss ..its great in comparison to dial-up , but not compared to someone who's a KM nearer than me to the transmitter and get the full speed
Just remember that permanets licensed service area is 15km from the main base station so they are not allowed to transmit or service customers outside that area. so if a customer is outside the area allowed they really dont have a leg to stand on regarding speed issues.

15 Km is a good range compared to other wireless providers . Also the fact it is licenced made me chose them in the first place. Although there are now other wireless providers in my area , i am sticking with Permanet. You basically get what it says on the tin. I pay for 1.5mb down and i get 1.48 all the time.
overall i have to say i am happy with the service i had with them since i joined them a few months ago.

I have had permanet installed since Dec 05, There were DCs issues until Feb06 but I can easily count the amount since. Overall given the nature of wireless the service is good. Anything is better than dialup/isdn given the fact that providers are limited. For anyone with a home network I would suggest looking at router setups/firewalls as I have resolved a lot of issues with permanet users, nothing to do with the service.

Cheers for the advice, I have tried 4 different types of router, with numerous firmware versions, I am still gettting disconnects, in fact over the last 2 days I reckon I have had about 20 DCs of about 4 - 8 secs each. Even when my PC is connected directly in the Permanet POE box, I still get the DCs, funny thing is, when I connect my IBB service either directly to the same PC or throught any of the routers, I do not get the DCs to the servers I use. I have checked the servers they are all up, the PC is OK, the routers wrok on one service and not the other, so its another one for the permanet tech boys to ponder.
Having the same problems here in Firies. Being going on now 2 weeks!!
Have rang them and emailed them , said its intermittant problem
Assume your on the Slieve Mish transmitter aswell
Hopefully it won t last much longer or i ll switch to DSL

Hi Guys,
Paul from Kerry Broadband here.
I dont want to use this as an advert but we have taken out a number of Permanet systems from customers who were having the same trouble with DC. we replaced the equipment with our equipment and pointed in the same direction as permanet.
We too suffered problems but because we install ourselves and do not use contractors, we have the knowledge to spend time and fine tune the radios. In some villages we have installed a dedicated base station for that village therefore reducing the distance from the client to the base station and this has had a huge efect on speeds and outages.
Also from the sliabh mish site you have to remember that there are two providers operating on the 3.5Ghz spectrum, IBB and Permanet, both competing in the same areas and from what we have seen on the spectrum analyzer there is plenty of cross interference on that band. There is also a third provider currently testing from that site which is adding to the interference.
Basically, every provider has problems but only a few have the time and the resources to sort them out sucessfully.

Hmmm, perhaps a you should approach the BB provider and buy some advert space..................... (Given that this is a forum)
In addition, it was my understanding that each provider within the 3.5Ghz spectrum was on a seperate frequency, with each frequency protected by a 50Ghz guard channel. If what you say is true, then why not contact COMREG and have them hit these providers hard?
I am sure that you offer an outstanding service, however remember the advice from the movie TOP GUN, "Don't write cheques your ego can't cash".

Hi Paul,
So what spectrum do you operate on and what is your coverage area ?

We do not need to contact Comreg as we do not suffer from interference from the 3.5ghz band however if you have a problem, the first thing to do is to contact the provider but not many of them actually return your call according to previous posts.
