I've been with permanet for 8 months now, fantastic support, fantastic service.

No complaints from me. Im on the 2mb biz service and generally get speeds above what I expect.

Disconnects about once a week now I sorted my router out...

Did permanet say where the basestation is exactly?

Are you saying that it used to disconnected more than once a week or that it no longer disconnects since you sorted your router out?

Basically, the router needs to be set up as an ethernet bridge, I have a static IP and it was trying to assign through DHCP too, causing probs.

Thumbs up Transmitter location for Waterford

permanet told me that their transmitter for Waterford is located on the smoke stacks at Cheekpoint, so anyone who can see the stacks within 30km radius should be able to use their service.

Default Permanet High Pings

Hello

I need the help of the other Permanet users in the Tralee / Kerry area. In the middle of Sept, Permanet started to upgrade their backbone network, this is the one that carries our traffic from the Moutain to the internet. Since this work has been completed, I have noticed that my PINGS and latency vary considerably to internal and external IP addresses. I have complained to Permanet and am told that I am the only individual experiencing this problem in the Tralee area. To be fair to Permanet, they are prepared to analysis my router traffic to try and find the root issue, however I have been unusually busy in the UK and not home so have not had time to enable SNMP on my routers.

Anyways, my help request, I would like to get a group of Permanet users to PING some agreed IP addresses and compare the results with my own pings, in the hope that I can get to the bottom of this.

The testing will only take about 10 mins over 3 days, this timescale will allow me to build a picture, so I was hopeing to get 4-5 people involved.

If you can help me, please respond to this post.

Thanks for the offers of help one and all, I will contact you guys soon to arrange the tests. Paul thanks for your offer, unfortunately, your service is on a seperate IP subnet and uses different routes to the internet, in addition, your equipment is not the same as that used by the Permanet dudes. I NEED the tests to be run on the Permanet network, as the tru put appears to be ok but the latency appears to be worse post backhaul upgrade.

Regards

Tq

PS: (STILL NEED 2 more people for the testing, it will take you 10 mins MAX per day for 3 days.)

I'm getting regular disconnects the last few days. I too use a static IP address. How do I set up my router as an ethernet bridge? It a dlink dir-636.

Nothing to do with the dlink, with a static IP & one machine connected directly to it there is no issue.

Its only an issue when you connect multiple machines through a router, then you need to set up either a bridge, sharing the connection from the PC with the static IP or set up the router with the static IP.

I have the static IP setup on the router. My PC TCP/IP properties are set to automatically obtain IP and DNS automatically.

You should be fine then, as long as all is set up ok. DHCP enabled? Enough local IP's from your router? Normally the issue is the router, you need to get support for that rather than the modem.

Im pretty sure the router is ok.

When the connection drops I get a time out when pinging Google, however if I ping my static IP on the router at the same time I get a reply <1ms.
