Default modem connection fitting sizes

Hello, this might seem like a silly question but i recently got broadband from a wireless ISP.
The cable they brought into the house has a fitting larger than the usual telephone fitting and it is going into a modem.
Yesterday i bought a wireless modem & router but it takes a telephone size fitting.

Does anyone know what is usually done for this situation. My ISP would be similar to Permanet.

Thanks in advance.

Its probably an ethernet cable. Im pretty sure you can get routers that take just ethernet and not the usual telephone socket.
If its wireless then why is there a cable coming into the house?

I'm out in the sticks so we need a receiver on the outside of the house.

I found out today that i bought a dsl modem, which is not suitable for what i have. €135 wasted until i eventually get DSL.

Thanks for replying.

If you only just bought the hardware you might be able to get your money back...

Good shout. 135 is a lot to be throwing down the toilet. I hope you kept your receipt odeacy.
You might be able to trade it in for the proper one you will need in the future.

The other option would be to try selling it on ebay ... though you're unlikely to get as much money there ....

Ok....Your ISP should have supplied you with a modem and/or router.....There a various types of routhers/modems....Most routhers will work on any broadband connection......They usually have 5 ports

ports 1 to 4 is for your pc's and and Internet port going from your routher to your modem via enthernet cable RJ45 CAT 5....

I bought a linksys wireless routher until I get NTL I don't need it...I'm currently with Eircom....

The routher is similar but has a phone jack marked DSL for the phone line...

135 yo yo's...I'm very surprised that your ISP did not supply you with a modem....The wireless routher I got cost me 60 euro...If you have your receipt and bought it within 30 days, bring it back and tell them you needed a broadband routher not a DSL routher/modem...

Best of luck,

Lofty
