Default What are you using?

Are you using something that your ISP provided or did you get your own kit?

Nice

Wireless can be really handy - fewer wires to trip over

Most of them are NAT only though, aren't they?

Yeah, still good though. It can be a right pain in the arse to set up Ethernet connection on them, and even worse setting up a network with DHCP but once you get it done they're pretty alright modems.

I'm using a Linksys DSL Cable Router via my single line 2meg NTL BB. It has 4 ports, I'm just using two.

I use a Belkin F5D7633_UK4A ADSL 2+ all-in-one wireless job as my modem. I used to have a Linksys WAG54G but when I was beta testing games it was more trouble than it was worth due to having to reconfigure the firewall every 5 minutes when a new updates came out for the betas.

Regards all...

Default Cable Modem

Im using a cable modem that Ntl were kind enough to provide but its the older version. Now they have told me that when the increace goes ahead that i dont need the newer model.

Just want to know if i were to buy a top of the range cable modem would it make any difference to the speed of download and upload rates?

Also whether i can use a fire wire connection from the modem to the pc and if it would make any difference in speeds if i were to use the regular network cable?

I use digiweb, Nova and Smart so I have a Dual Wan router the VERY brill Xincom DPG603 and a Wireless/DSL router the Draytek 2600W ( getting the 2800vpw soon )

Oh and no none of the providers provided these I had to buy em myself, ISPs always give crappy routers. smart gave me the worse one an AOLYNK thingy.

Default routers & modems

Guess I must be at the bottom of the pile. Am using the Zyxel Prestige 630 USB modem I got from UTV ages ago. PC is old (6years) P3 & am on the basic package @ 29.99 euro/month.Speed is 1.71 & 195 most of the time. Do I get a minus rating for using this modem? regards to all John

Just thought I would update this as I have bought some new kit recently to try out on my connection and compare.

I bought a Linksys WAG354G all-in-one wireless job, which I'm using at the moment. It gives better sync rates than my Belkin 7633. I also picked up a Linksys WAG54GS to try and compare, but it's not up to much and manages lower sync rates than the Belkin does.

My only gripe about the WAG354G is that Linksys in their infinite wisdom have decided not to include any standard sections to show conenction errors. There is a hidden page that will give you these and it took a bit of hunting about on the net to find it.

If you have a WAG354G and want to see your stats, then:

http://192.168.1.1/ADSLCStatus.htm will show you them.

Best regards...
Tom

I got my own 3Com Office Connect wireless 11g cable/dsl router.
Model is 3CRWE554G72T.
I am running my main pc & myth-tv box through the ethernet ports on it (4 total), one pc in the next room by wireless, and occasional access by wireless from a laptop downstairs.
As far as I can remember, the wireless router came with a usb wireless dongle - I use this on the pc in the next room. For the laptop, I got a Sweex wireless pcmcia card from SVP (www.svp.co.uk) the same time I was getting some blank dvds.

Thumbs up

Hi guys,

Currently i am using a Linksys for my wireless hotspot but also in my network i have a 3com office connect 8 port router & an SMC 4 port which was provided by an ISP. They all seem to work quite well. At home i use the netopia router supplied by eircom and an SMC wireless which again has never given a days trouble.

I'm using a Linksys WRT54G with an IBB 3Mb connection. Using all 4 LAN ports at the mo along with a fonero AP.

Anyone recommend a rack-mount 16port switch for around 70-80euro?
