Default Magnets "2wire modem"

Hi all,

I hope some of you can help me out because I'm really stuck!!

Basically I'm after switching from a digiweb 3meg connection with connection wise just a modem to my pc with an ethernet cable but I thought I go for magnet's triple play package which includes 8meg broadband.

Magnet supply a "2wire" router that does for your tv/phone/broadband and also works wirelessly if you have a wireless card. So I purchased a "belkin usb adapter" and got up and running.

Thing is, now my speed seems to have dropped dramatically. With the 3meg connection from digiweb, I was hitting speeds of 200kbps upwards. Now its amazing if I hit 100kbps with an 8meg connection. Also with the 3meg, as soon as I clicked on a link, the page would appear quickly and in full but now with a whopping 8meg, its taking 10-15 seconds for the page to appear but when it does appear it is fully downloaded.

I did a speed test and it says I'm hitting just under 6megs.

I'm not well up on routers or modems but I searched the web a little and it says to port forward, just enter your default gateway no into the browser. But when I do that, it just comes up " page cannot be found".

I couldn't get through to magnet today but from reading posts on the web, they won't give a public ip address. They say basically that its their router and they have given you an address.

I'm really sick over this, an 8meg connection and only hitting probably 30kbps most of the time.

Is there any way to alter the settings on this router?

Or if I bought a different router could I "go behind" the 2wire and open up all ports from there? And if I could, could I still watch my tv stations and use my phone that connects into the 2wire router?

Hope someone can help me on this.

Thanks
Sandisk

Have you tried the connecting to the router with an ethernet cable? Try this and see if you get better speeds. If you do then try again with your wireless card and make sure you have a reasonably good signal quality. If the signal quality is bad then this would definitely be limiting your download speeds.
