Default need help on router modem speed!

i'm using router to sharing my ISP for 4 computer, and while they download something for internet, then my network will be very slow, sometime until cannot view website, can someone give some idea to solve this problem, or can i split out or devide the ISP speed to be fair for every computer and so won't affect my network speed while other computer is downloading file??example, my network speed is 2Mbps, then split it to 512k each computer,is that posible?

You could try using quality of service on the router so that each user gets a capped speed

Or if that fails use a program like netlimiter on each pc to limit speed. Just have it come on automatically at startup. I think the router is the better option though cause the users have no control over it.

It depends on the router you are using.

If you're using a linksys, for example, you can change the firmware to use one of the linux based ones that offers QoS
