Unhappy Went over My download CAP

Hi folks

Just checked my Bandwidth usage with UTV there on the 31st of March and it read 9.4 GIG .
Last time I checked was on the 26/27th March and it read less than 8 GIG for downloading and about 2ish GIG for uploading.
On the 26/27th March to the 31st I have done no DL and maybe a bit of browsing but nothing to account for this huge increase in data transfer.

My DL cap is set at 8 GIG and I have the option set to cap my DL if I go over it(i.e. have my account suspended if I exceed my download cap). But on the 31st for example I could browse the net no problem.
This is the first time I have experinced something like this with UTV, any one encountered this before?

Anyone know what the likely bill is to be? Don't really wanna pay it as I feel the cap thing would have blocked me from going over my cap,
especially by that much.

Thanks

Are you using a wireless modem Hattrick? Perhaps someone else is using your connection?

Default MPG download sites are good way to pick up a nasty bandwidth program

MPG download sites are good way to pick up a nasty bandwidth program which are reputed to use your bandwidth for thier own purposes

Also porn sites have special spammer programms that eat your band width for breakfast

and then your local wireless neighbours on the street

and thousand of other possibilities

Do you down l,oad lots of vidios and MPG ???

extra costs with Eircom 0.01 cents per meg I think or some €10 per gig

but others outfits hammer you for that

and some dont charge you for a year and then you get a bill thats AAAAGGGGGGHHHHHHHH russian rollete time

and others dont charge the extra ever because its just there to stop mega abuse

Now you will find out what type of fangs UTV got

good luck

wireless is no good..
with laptop computer and wirless card in it. I have seen how is easy to get "free" internet from Eircom,DigiWeb
just sit 50m near hause and you can use unlimited high speed internet and download as much as you want..
and have access to LAN computers.I'm not using wireless anymore.. after what i have seen.
It's all up to you

Default Wireless is great SUCKERS

A friend of mine in thier housing estate has several WiFi to chose from which suits them as they dont got to get a phone and pay the steep prices plus they can skype everywhere what thay want SUCKERS

At where I work in town there are several suitable wirless links and some of them are right beside big colleges and sometimes the speeds are so slow because obviosly the half the college is hooked up to get around the colleges censor no downloading preety girl sites etc

Several years now those hot spots are still wide open are still wide open so figure they must have been talked into taking unlimited download packages rather than solve problem good for the TELCO bad for the SUCKERS

A relation of mine in lives in South Africa darkest africa

(nows that a well developed broadband country light years in advance of Ireland we should ask South African telco to sort out Ireland )

Thier Kids downloading from music sites is always picking up bandwidth share programs that eat up the monthly quaota in days and so every month to switch on the sytem again they end up paying top up charges
but in South Africa if you ask for it to CAP it will CAP and service stops
but here there are no rules in Ireland I suspect so its better to convince you to take out unlimited pack and sting you for the costs SUCKERS

Its called TELCO FANGS

and dont bother to call coNreg they put you on hold and run up your bill
SUCKERS

If you're set to get disconnected instead of paying, don't worry. It's a well known loophole with utv. The count of your download is only tallied on connection, so leave your modem on for the last 24 hours downloading as much as you can. Just make sure to disconnect shortly after midnight, or some may carry over to next month.

Btw, caps are now 6, 12, or 20 gb now anyway.

Finally @eDVA, do you actually know what you're talking about? Provided you've encryption set up on your router you'll be able to discourage your average leecher. I know that wep and wpa are crackable with time, but in fairness it's fairly unlikely.

Default I dont think most WiFi has security enabled

I dont think most WiFi has security enabled

Its not nesssary to have code cracking abilities

when i go buy bus every day with my laptop my Wiget shows green lights for open WiFi and Red for closed and signal strenth

75% are green lights

I suspect once you put security on its probably very difficult to crack the codes but with so many green light who needs to

Can you explain this a bit better please? If they charge I intend on paying, although not without a fight.

Is the last 24hours of the month not counted towards your data DL? If this is the case I could do alot of DL here !!

last time I rang them, a couple of months ago They said I was on the 8gig cap and unlimited upload, but I am aware of the new caps for the newish packages.

If you're connected and downloading, you won't get kicked off when you reach your cap. If you go over your cap you'll just find that you won't be able to connect the next time (assuming you've chosen the disconnect me option).

As you don't get kicked off, you can download as much as you want over the last 24-48 hours provided you don't disconnect from the internet.

Also, make sure to disconnect just before midnight on your last day to make sure all downloads are left behind in the previous month
