Default new UTV speed ??

Just got UTV broadband installed last Friday. I had no end of trouble getting on line. I spent all day Saturday, and Monday evening and Tuesday evening sorting out the problem. Now its working but when I do a speed test I am only getting 1 Meg. It’s never gone over one at all. I should be getting 2. Has any one got the same problem? I don’t know a lot about speeds or computers so when I call technical support I can’t argue with what they tell me. I would assume that it should go over the 1 meg result at least once in a speed test, but its not.

Got the 2 Meg package a few weeks ago and in reality getting an average of out about 1.7/1.75 meg, so you should be getting a fair bit better then the 1 meg you are receiving.
It may depend on how far you are from the exchange.

Had no problems getting on-line either.

Go into the administration page for your modem and see if you can find the line statistics. Post them up here and we can get an idea if your line's a problem or if it's UTV's network being short of capacity.

Default UTV Speed

Really getting fed up with the UTV speed. Have been using the service for maybe 2 years. Recently noticed major speed drop at night, last night as slow as .65 - just fractionally faster than dial up. This issue I am sure is all about contention and 48 to 1 is probably pushing the limits but then so do all other ISPs. Any comments on the quality of UTV speed from other users?

Reply:I find your statement interesting-I'm with them also for 2yrs @ 1Mb but the real speed is closer to .2/.3 Mb,but I've been told that I'm limited by my distance from local enabled exchange(approx 3kms from Blarney,Co Cork)-I'm also getting fed up with the frequent router breakdowns(Voyager 210 ADSL)-I can't really download any slow processes like movies overnight-as usual, the router needs rebooting when I check in the morning with little if any overnight downloading done!I'm not technically knowledgable enough to challenge anything they say in reply to my queries, and,in fact, this is part of my reason for participating in this forum-to check out if they are snowballing me or what!-Alan

Default UTV Speed Upgrade

I had a brief problem with my utv connection last week and spoke to a support engineer. I have ClickSilverPlus which is supposed to give me a 3Mb connection but the best I have ever done is 1.72 down and .314 up, but it is consistent. I mentioned this to the engineer who tested my line and declared it to be fit for 'anything'. He mentioned that they are in the process of upgrading their hardware in Dublin and that my exchange (Coolock) should be done in the coming 'week or two' and that I would be automatically upgraded to an 8Mb connection (w00t!). He said that if I did not see an improvement in a week or two I should call back and check the status of the upgrade with them.

Of course we all know that utv simply resell Eircon (sic) bandwidth but at least I don't have to (literally) contend with Eircon users.

Generally I am frustrated by the support/admin dept of utv but when you do reach them, they are usually helpful and are certainly no worse than anyone else, if that is any kind of kudos...
