Default UTV Wireless connection dropping

Is anyone else suffering from this? I'm in Roscrea and have a UTV 3mb wireless connection which keeps getting disconnected at regular intervals. Also, the top dl speed I'm getting since I upgraded to 3mb last year is 1.9mb.

When I click the "view wireless connections" tab it says I'm connected yet the net stops working as does Skype...MSN etc. and then I'll get a popup message over the tray icon a few minutes later saying I'm connected and everything signs in/works again.

The very same is happening to me. I have to reboot my router several times a day. I rang UTV and they told me it could be down to the cordless phone I have,The router,The dongle at the back of the PC etc etc etc. They suggested hooking it up using a cable....eh I cant!!! Thats why I'm using wireless!

I hooked it up using a cable...even re-installed my old usb modem but it was still disconnecting. Since I posted this though I found out it wasn't just UTV! Eircom and BT customers in Roscrea were being disconnected too which would lead be to believe it's a problem on the Roscrea Eircom exchange. Whereabouts are you and is it still as bad as ever? Mine started about two weeks ago.

I'm in balbriggan and it's always been bad. My mate has a similar problem and he's around the corner from me. He reckons that the connection isn't really an always on connection and that they are monitoring it and disconnecting you when not in use???

I doubt that's the case. I leave the laptop on all the time and queue up downloads etc. and this problem is relatively new. It's never disconnected before and I've been with em for a few years now. What speed is your connection?

I think they are doing it lately though. I'm on a 3mb connection and I'm averaging around 2.6mb.

Hi O'Prez

UTV do not have their own network infrastructure, they resell the Eircon Bitstream product in the same way that BT, Perlico, Imagine, Gaelic Telecom, and Digiweb do. So I’m not surprised that others besides UTV are experiencing the same disconnection issues in your area.

I have the BT 3Mbps package and I had a disconnection issue which only arose after about 12 months of exemplary service. I figure it must have been down to the exchange reaching max capacity and in order to keep bandwidth available I was being disconnected when not actively surfing.

BT TS could not explain the reason for the disconnections, sometimes as many as 30–40 per day, but I discovered that my modem setup was configured for ‘connect on demand’ with an idle time of a few minutes. I got BT TS to talk me through setting up the modem for a ‘nailed up’ connection after which the problem never resurfaced.

I’m not sure what make of modem UTV provide but you should check the modem setup and try deselecting ‘connect on demand’ in favour of ‘nailed up’, ‘’keep alive’ or whatever it’s called on the UTV modem.

Hi guys

I'm Living in Shannon in Co. Clare on the 3Mb service with UTV and the dropouts are really becoming a pain. I contacted TS on Saturday and they brough up activity on the account and even they were surprised to see 15 atempts by the router to connect in one go!!! Before they report a fault they have to get you to try various configurations, this I have done and will be back on to them tomorrow. As Identified before the service before this has been amazing, I wonder is Eircom doing any major works on the exchanges? Possibly even a bandwidth increase......I can dream can't I?
