'Um I use the google talk program and have found it's VOIP service very good, have been using it for quite a while now as well. you can only talk to other people with a google mail account but as there are so many invitations now it shouldn't be a problem.

Yeh but Google talk is really only a messenger service without the possibility to terminate to POTS. Fine if the person you wish to talk to is wired and online, but not much good if you want to call your mate's landline or mobile. Whilst at the moment they make a point of saying "we think talking should be free" I am sure that in time they will leverage their position as the best search engine bar none, to introduce a full Voip service that will generate significant revenue for them.
No you dont have to lodge any credit to call landlines. Sign up and thats it. You need credit to call mobiles though.
Mickomania,on there web site in FAQ'S it says the connectiom goes down after 1 min,to stop this you must lodge credit into your account.Have you tried it yet?
blacknight you will be hard pushed to find anyone offering free calls to landlines you may get 1-5 mins. at most before charges start to clock up.
I promote a free SIP-to-SIP, very cheap SIP-to-Phone and SIP-to-mobile service, Get your free softhpone and you're ready to go.

Chris I have tried internetcalls.com and have not been cutoff after one minute.
My guess is that Betamax use basically the same FAQ's for all it's sites (Voipstunt, Voipbuster, VoIPCheap, NetAppel, SparVoIP et al) and as internetcalls is the first time they have offered free calls without buying credit, they have just forgotten to edit this particular faq.

Well according to http://www.internetcalls.com/en/free.html landline calls are free to most countries. Yes it says you have to lodge credit for calls over a minute, but those calls don't eat into it. I may try this, in which case I'l give yiz an update,

I havnt been cut off yet anyway. I was on for about twelve minutes once.
Ill test it to see what is the max time I can get.
Betamax GmbH just keep'em coming! They have launched another new site called www.voipdiscount.com with free calls to landlines in 52 countries including Ireland. Calls to Irish mobiles are now better value at 17.40cent/min.
I am using voipbuster all the time. you lodge a tenner ( I think it will work even with a fiver) off you go! The landlines are free but beware the mobiles are dearer. To get around the different providers and different pricing if you get a ATA (sipura 3000) is mine you can link this both to your internal telephone extensions around the house, your pots line (for incoming calls, 999 freephones etc). You can then set up several voip providers depending on their pricing and save a fortune. And you dont have to use your PC!
The only pity is that you dont seem to be able to get dialin numbers in Ireland, and I suppose moving your own number to be a voip dial in number is light years away. Pity though then one could get rid of the telephone line altogether and the line rental.

Mickomania, i think the free calls are finished on internet calls, iwas useing it today and got cut off,it now asks me to buy credit, have you tried it yet?

Have a look at www.blueface.ie or www.voiceireland.ie they both offer Irish geographic and non-geographic numbers, porting an existing number will take about 6 weeks (quick work by Eircom!) The service is rather expensive by voipbuster standards though. I seem to remember coming across a US voip provider that offered Irish IN numbers but can't remember who it was. Have a trawl through www.myvoipprovider.com and you may come up with something.
Mick Internetcalls.com is sooo last week! www.voipdiscount.com is where you need to try!
BTW How long does it take to become a Senior member round here? The junior tag makes me feel like a naughty schoolboy!
